Hey all,

Like the rest of the flight training industry, we are in need of instructors. We Just updated/increased our payscale in order to be a bit more competitive. The name of the school is Riverside Flight Center. We fly C-152 for Private, C-172 for Instument, and BE-76 for Comm. We are a school that strongly believes in standards and care about the pilots that we produce. Below is the job posting you might find on other websites. If you have any questions let me know and I will answer ASAP.

Sent you a PM. I've been checking out the area and it looks pretty nice. I'm definitely interested, hoping to hear more details soon.

Jay is a good guy and that place is busy, so you will be working a bunch. Shoot him a PM and he will give it to you straight.

My PPL instructor is going to be going over to RFC I think later this month. I'm at Christiansen myself, but I think that Riverside has some excelent instructors. The only thing I have against RFC is their high density of International students. I've met quite a few of them and they are all nice and respectful, but their English is bad. I've had several instances where ATC has really been taxed in trying to communicate in such a busy airspace.

Could you expand on the pay structure please sir?

Sure no problem:

The pay scale is pretty straight forward: for the first 30 days pay is $15/hr + company provided housing, which is a pretty nice furnished apartment. This allows our instructors to relocate without the worry of being on the street until they have their own housing arrangements. After they find a place in Tulsa, the pay increases to 20/hr. Ninety days after employment the instructor is evaluated, if he/she has been working hard and getting the job done the pay increases to 25/hr. After an additional 90 days of employment the instructor will be reevaluated for yet another pay increase to 30/hr.

We are quite busy: our instructors consistently fly between 100-150 hours per month. Last month we had an instructor fly 177 hours. If you do the math, one can easily live in a city where the cost of living is quite low compared to other parts of the country. The hours are certainly available for the motivated instructors.

If you have any other questions let me know.

That's not really a big deal to me as I'm currently working with international students. In general, their hard work and study habits make up for their lack of English speaking ability, and their English improves greatly in the first few months that they are here.

I retract my statement from the other CFI job thread... that is a TON of flying! At $20/hr thats liveable. If I could get the g/f to break up with me I'd be all over it!:D

Most of our instructors average between 100-150/mo, I could look tomorrow to get an actual average...for those who haven't instructed before that is a lot of work. 177 is the highest that I have seen and it's borderline crazy.

considering that the cost of rent is about $550 + $50. I was at 71st and er... yeah right over the bridge (watercrest? riverview?) and my bills were LOW.

I Instructed there for the last 9 months, during that time I got 800 hours, plus 150 hours sim which you get paid for as well.

It makes me mad that they increased their pay scale after I leave :( oh well

the biggest downside is the weather at Tulsa IMO, sometimes the weather is bad a month at a time and you sit around doing nothing literally all month and get maybe 40 hours, then the next month the weather is nice and its catch up time, and you get 150 hours and praying for bad weather so you can take breather lol

Agreed. I'm 50 miles west of TUL and the weather in OK sucks. Currently, in the past 2 months I've probably flown 20 hours.

Do they hire for short durations? I would be willing to fly there from May 1 to the end of June if they would be willing to do that. Any thoughts?

I'm about 130miles north, and going north never means better weather in the winter... 60 hours the past 2.5 months...

And I second that question, any chance they would hire from now to say May or so and let me crash in that free apartment or whatever it is for a few months?(possibly following the g/f to grad. school come May -- looks like I already found my replacement, E6BAV8R :D)

Talked to the Chief, he said that we are hiring immediately until all postions are full. Anyone interested can call him, Wayne Cothran, directly at 918-261-6327.

He's a pretty easy going guy, so feel free to give him a call.

Reviving an old thread...

Just wondering if you guys currently working here have any input on the working conditions (or living conditions in provided housing) there at RFC. Thinking about going to check it out this weekend while I'm down around that area.
