CFI interview questions

Well, it sounds like I might be having my first interview for a CFI job shortly... and I'm curious to know if there's any typical way a CFI interview goes? Pretty much, I'd like to know what other CFI's experienced when being interviewed. Are there typical questions to be asked to a CFI in an interview? I'm curious about both the technical questions and HR questions. Any comments? Thanks!

My interviews were pretty much like this:
-why work here
-future plans
-favorite kind of flying
-airplane systems
-emergency situations (what would you do if...)
-student situations

Ditto what Ed posted.

I got more student scenarios than anything. Who you could solo, another instructor's student wants an endorsement from you on her CFI's day off....stuff like that.

I just got the phone call... I'm interviewing for my first CFI job this Friday!! It sounds like there are a lot of people interested in and interviewing for the positions, so I'm not getting my hopes up too high (although, there is more than 1 position- that'll help my cause), but since this is my first aviation interview, I am excited!

Something to add... does anybody have any pointers for an interview? Things that'll make me stand out, but not in a bad way... etc?

Also, I plan on wearing a suit... I'd rather be over dressed than underdressed... but any comments on the color of shirt? Stick with a light color like white because it's traditional? Or go with a darker, more stylish shirt... like a dark grey? (I'd give you more color options, but those are the only 2 color dress shirts I own that look nice, and I can't afford any new ones... unless Walmart has a nice selection now /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif) Thanks for any input!

Walmart has a very nice selection these days...;) So does Sam's, for that matter (if you have access).

I went with a white shirt and charcoal coat/slacks for my first interview, then for my follow up I went with a pinstriped white/blue shirt and tan slacks.

It worked for me!!

Flight Instruction has got to be one of the only minimum wage jobs around for which people will wear a suit to the interview. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/spin2.gif

Your attitude will be what gets you the job, not the color of your shirt. Best of luck with the interview!

I'm a Check Instructor at a 141 School/University. We just got done interviewing several job applicants for CFI jobs. We had every applicant teach a maneuver (Lazy 8's or Turns about a point), and then we asked some technical questions (aerodynamics, systems, FOI knowledge, SVFR) and asked some problem student questions along with some HR type questions. Each interview was about 30 minutes long. They also took a written test after the interview.

Hope this helps...

Chris

To add to the tread. I am also going for my first real interview I guess for a CFI position!!! I am currently instructing part time but I was basically handed the job so there was no interview, just hey fly with this person. Great he is your student!

....And keep the suit. You'll need it for your less than minimum wage first airline job interview.
