CFI interview preparation

Hello all,

I have my first CFI interview tomorrow and the organization has been very broad on how I should prepare... I was wondering if you guys could give me any general things I could do to prepare myself? Such as any unique types of questions that you encountered...

I got asked about Va with weight changes how/why, airmets/sigmets, final approach fixes for precision and non-precision approaches, alternate mins, when do we need an alternate...not as tough as a checkride.

Be calm and be yourself. If they ask and you don't know just admit you had a brain confusion/fart and look it up. It could happen to anyone, don't lie, and they'll give you the job! Good luck!
 
Not sure how long it has been since you took your checkride for your CFI, but I'm going to assume that it was recent. If that's the case, you are probably going to be fine on the aviation knowledge. Remember that being a CFI is a teaching gig more than it is a flying gig, so make sure you've put some thought into that side of it as well. Things like what you'll do to make sure that your students stay motivated and succeed, how to handle a difficult student or one that seems prone to overconfidence, how to deal with a student that has hit a learning plateu, things like that. If the place you're applying for is part 61 and doesn't have a prescribed syllabus or TCO for its students, make sure you think about how you're going to organize their training. One question I remember being asked was what I would do if I was approached to give a BFR in a higher performance aircraft in which I wasn't familiar.

That's a great point. My HR interview was based around FOI style questions too. Like how will you deal with student frustration, getting a time line completed for students, how you deal with change of plans for a scheduled flight with a student etc. It's good to be professional and have professional answers.

Nope, I'm at TransPac in Phoenix. There was no interview for AF. They offered all the academy a job at $17/hour. Would have loved to stay with them but I needed more stable money for student loans and etc.
 
Thank you for the responses guys, the interview went very well and unfortunately I will not know until Thanksgiving...
