CFI Initial FOI Stuff

How much should I concentrate on FOI stuff for my CFI checkride?? I've gone through every item in the PTS and typed out the answers. Which required me to basically read the whole book. Should I memorize anything, which items... It just seems like so much information and so overwelming. Even though most of it is common sense... Anyone have any advice or stories from their own check ride???:confused:
 
I just went through this on Monday with the FAA. I got a letter of discontinuance because of the weather for this Friday, and the weather still isn't looking good for that day either.

Take your PTS and write as small as you can next to each item for FOI's. PEMA, PIM, PPAR, CPRDRFAR, EDSIE, OFACCTSO, SSR, etc. My favorite was OFACCTSO - Over Feeding Alligators Can Cause Torn Skin Occasionally. Make up your own, but they helped me get through it.

When you are going through the FOI's with the Inspector, just hold your PTS up in front of your lap and follow along with each item that he/she is asking you, and DON'T let the Inspector see what you have written in there. Just don't stare at it...briefly glance down at it if you need the help of the acronym. Do not write a thesis, but simply the acronyms to assist you with the memory aid. Even if he/she catches a glance at what you have written in there, it is no big deal. They WILL let you use the memory aid for recall. And, they will probably be happy to see you wanting to follow along with the PTS out in front of you, giving the appearance that you really know how to use the thing. Also, ruffle up your PTS a few times and bend the cover a bit to make it seem like you have used it quite a bit. Write your initials on the outside cover. If you get the first 20 minutes of items all correct, chances are that he/she will move right along into the other areas.

And, I agree. FOIs are a royal pain in the butt.

I'd say the FOI is emphasized, so the more work you put into your lesson plans, or acronyms or whatever - the better.

I see aspects of the FOI everyday in teaching and glad that I have the knowledge as a suppliment to all the psychology i took in college.

sometimes i even lean over to another instructor and say something like "denial of reality" and we know where one another is coming from.

even the pyramid of learning, with key works like mental set or rote come into play every day.

Even if you're just learning it for the checkride, you actually use it all the time.
 
The key to passing the checkride is to get a gouge from someone else who has flown with that examiner. They all emphasize different points.
 
Or just study alot.

No for real, DEs/Examiners all pick bits and pieces but generally I bet they focus on the Learning Process and then briefly touch on the other sections and emphasis the Instructor Responsibilities, etc.
