CFI Initial Checkrides during shutdown

I calłed the MCI FSDO last week as i will be going to KC next month to train. There was only one guy there (manager) and we spoke for a bit.We had a nice talk and we talked about flying in KC vs. the Jersey Shore. He said I would have a DPE for my ride, and that the back log will be signifigant. I am mixed about paying vs using a fed. He told me applicants jump at the chance to use a DPE. I will me upset if i fail but een more upset if i pay fora ride and fail lol.

I had a DPE use their phone on the checkride, which was interesting. I've flown twice with the FSDO, they're fine. DPEs do have discretion, but for a CFI, the FSDO seems the best way. $500 for a checkride is steep, $800 just crazy.

So far I'm 7/7 for checkrides+MFTs, so don't want to mess that up if I go for CFI.

I paid $800 for a DPE ride, and the guy wanted 50% for a retest.

And like other guys have said, it all comes down to the individual examiner. I didn't find myself relaxed but rather intimidated on my ride.
