That's surprising to me, I heard Brooks Black was almost akin to the devil for your initial ride!!

I just got my car freed from the snow after about an hour of digging. It was trapped after the plows came through last night.

Too bad, that is probably it for good snow this year, oh well, we always have next year... Maybe now I can get some good flying in finally.

Yeah, I heard about him too.............did a lot of research (as all ATP guys do) before my initial to see what I'd be up against depending on which DE I got.

Sounds like somone was looking for a good gouge. I admit, I was in the same boat as you, but the guy I got placed with (Richard Hirsch in Tampa) was unheard of at the time by ATP. ATP seemed to have a pretty good gouge on every examiner in Florida but nothing on the DE I had. I think this was a good thing for me because since I had nothing to go on, I reviewed everything as much as I could and even though I was a wreck going into the checkride, once I sat down in the chair I was as cool as the backside of the pillow. He did pretty much cover everything too and I felt it was a very fair oral/ride. He got just deep enough into things to find something I didn't know so he could teach me something and then we moved into the next subject.

Gouges can be overrated, and from what a few guys in my CFI class experienced, inaccurate at times which led to costly pinkslips. Do youself a favor and cover everything before you focus on what you heard he might ask and everything will go just fine.

A couple gouges that two students in my class were using stated the dual oral would last 45 minutes to an hour. Their oral ended up being 5 hours.

Oh, believe me, I wasn't going to chance my, up to that point 100% pass rate on all checkrides, on someone else's word for what my ride would be like (ie: gouge). I studied every bit of info I could get my hands on, to make sure I knew just about anything he could throw at me. I just wanted to know what the guy's demeanor was like, and how he conducted his rides. Far as I'm concerned, it's just smart to use every bit of advantage you can get. And FWIW, I did go the whole program w/o a bust!
