Hey everyone, I was wondering if flight instructors up in the DC/Philly/NJ/New York area can attain up to 100 hours of flying per month (non winter months) or is the volume of total students simply not as high as Florida or Arizona? If so, are there certain flight schools which you would recommend to instruct at? I would love to stay in this region to flight instruct and build time as efficiently as possible.

Student volume is high. Student populations are also very different- a significant portion of the wealth in this country is on the east coast. Its a good place if you want a future in corporate or Pt 91.

@highflyer14 - what hook_dupin said is correct for the DC/MD/NoVA area. There is quite a bit of pilot training going on at a number of FBOs. There are also flying clubs that can always use CFIs.

You outlined a pretty big geographic area. If you narrow it down, I'm certain some of our members around here can give you details.

I work at a Part 61 school on Long Island and I've regularly gotten 100 hours a month. I also started at a great time (April). I've been told I'm approachable, friendly, and personable so that's helped out. My only non 100 a month was last month (85) and April (my first month as a CFI)

AF has a school in NJ. They are pretty good for another campus I went too and you don't have to deal with trying to find students or fight for them. Have you also looked at any of the University flight schools? Idk where Liberty University is but I met a guy who went there and seemed decent size.

Liberty University is in western Virgina (Lynchburg, VA).

Delaware State University has a flight department which operates a fleet of their own aircraft out of Delaware Airpark (33N).

Harford Air Services (just north of Baltimore MD) is currently seeking full time CFIs we have lots of students wanting to fly! Give us a call 410-836-2828
