CFI/II renewal

I just finished mine using gleim and I was satisfied with the product. They even did the paperwork for me so that I didn't have to drive to a FSDO.

I went the Gleim route.

Easy structure, 20 T/F questions, a .pdf file that is similar to their books (outline format) covering the topics for that sub-unit, then a 10 question multiple choice knowledge quiz for each sub-unit.

It can be done in less than four hours, if you're in a rush.

It took me 17 days, but I took my time.

Now to fill out this 8710 and try to get into the FSDO on the 22nd.

Why the discrepancy between two people using the same product?

The extra fee that Gleim charges to deliver the paperwork for you. Some will pay, some wont.

Ahh, thanks. I'm up for renewal in a couple of months for the first time and don't have any experience with either product.

The AF course is a good deal. The content sucks. With Google Chrome, it doesn't time out, so you can leave it running while you are "studying" it.

Is it worth it for the ACR? August will be my first time (amazing how 2 years go by that quick too....)

Depends on your location. For me, yes, because it is a long way to FSDO. It would cost me more to go there myself than to pay the ACR fee.

I am about to finish American Flyers, working on my last 100 minutes. It is a drag waiting for 100 minutes to take the test for each of the 8 parts. This is the first time I have renewed by taking a course and I got my first CFI in the early 80’s. Until 2 years ago it was expired for about 6-8 years.

Did that ride with the FSDO and it also covered the annual Instrument Competency Check the insurance requires in our companies C340. Does not matter that I have to go to simulator school every year for 5 days to keep my Single Pilot C560 current, they still want a ride in the C340.

I like the old days when the examiner would renew my CFI at my 61.58 every year. I can never find anyone that will do that now.

Sorry for rambling, been on the computer all day. I also did the TSA crap. Time to go back to AF to finish.
