CFI for dummies...

Thanks! Yeah from what I gather initially it's a glorified private/commercial with a few extra regs thrown in.

One question I didn't think to ask before the FOI, but is still relevant is.... What exactly is "the need to maintain and enhance the organized self?" Can anyone state it in simple terms? It's in some study material a friend sent me and in some of the written stuff, but the only place I could find it in the Aviation Instructor's Handbook was in the glossary under "Basic Need" and nowhere else. Just a definition without any real explanation.

Sounds like a description of the "Self Actualization" section of Maslow's hierarchy of needs... basically, after you're fed/watered, have a place to sleep, have some friendship, and feel like you have value, then your final need is to feel like you're enhancing inner yourself, your creativity, knowledge of the world, analytical capabilities... that stuff.

Passed the FOI this morning, 86%. On to the CFI-A!

Congrats! :> Going to get your AGI while you're at it?

Shoot, that reminds me ... I still need to do my -II written. (And, uh, oh yeah, actually finish my initial CFI >.<)

I hadn't planned on it but we shall see. I never REALLY planned on doing the CFI but it's probably the best course of action for me at the moment. I'm a little nervous about teaching people with no experience and being responsible for them, but overall I'm excited about it and I think it will be good for me. And I can't wait to get out of my current job, so there's that.

I wouldn't worry too much about being nervous when first starting out. Every CFI I have ever known has told me that in the beginning, they felt like they were wasting their student's time. You will make mistakes, but you will learn a lot from them. Being a little nervous can be a good thing anyways, it will keep you on your toes.

Plus, how the heck does the quote button work?
