So hello again folks. I droped off the radar for awhile but Im back! :rawk: I've gotten most of the ratings I need now cept for 1. Im currently working with my instructor on my CFI. And i'm currently in the FOI section and just had 1 quick question. What is the best way to get through the FOI without falling asleep or going insane?:insane: And when does this rating start getting fun?! :whatever: The best way I've found so far is to have a rotating background on my comp of really cool flight deck shots. It gets/keeps me motivated! ....for a bit.

Are you talking about the written, or mastery of the material itself?

The Jepp stuff is - I think - pretty good.

If the thought of teaching is that boring to you it might be best to look into alternatives to get you to that flight deck job. Going 90kts in a 152 for hours is going to kill you, and in turn your going to burn out. If your up in the bay I think there are some DZ's and maybe a survey company you can look into.

If it is just the FOI written that is killing you then toughen up, it only takes one afternoon.
 
FOI sucks but you can just memorize the database, its only like 160 questions in the FOI written database...
 
FOI isn't a hurdle to jump to get to your CFI. It's a tool belt from which you will reach for every day as a flight instructor. Do yourself a favor, more importantly your future students, and learn it. Use it.
 
Just took the FOI 2 hours ago. Yes it sucks to study and isnt necessarily as interesting as studying for other aviation tests but it is doable (obviously). I downloaded the gleim software. It makes studying more interactive and thus a bit more entertaining. It also covers several questions that arent in the book.

Dude - the FOI is the most subjective BS ever - just have to memorize the question/answers like 90% of people out there do.
 
It may be dry but is stuff you actually need to know and will use when teaching. Also with your CFI exams check out which ones you need again for your Ground Instructor certs and just take them twice back to back. All you need to get your GI ticket is take the written, fill out an 8710 and take to the feds.
 
Wow, Love the cross section from it being BS to Vital info. I believe that alot of it is useful but common knowledge to anyone who took psych 101 in college. I think I'll load the gliem stuff up and work off that. Thats a good idea, I like their stuff. Oh and FYI I LOVE teaching. I a SCUBA Divemaster and teach classes where I work everyday. Being able to teach in a plan, thats like having my cake and eating the darn thing too!

I understand the reason for it - but it's subjective and each person has so many factors that you can't just pin point stuff and indentify a complex event as being some sort of defense mechanism. Maslow's hierarchy isn't exactly the gospel... as well as a behavioristic approach towards teaching itself. The FOI test itself is kinda BS - seriously, half the questions have about a bizzilion possible answers to any given situation. You just have to know what definitions they are looking for, regardless if they're actually accurate or not. Any Psychology Professor would tell you that psychology itself is very subjective, until the next studies or behavioral theories come out. There are certain aspects of it that are common sense, and perhaps the only useful information. Good stuff includes the levels of knowledge... Rote, etc... that makes sense.
