CFI Flight Bag

Any good suggestions from you guys would be appreciated. The one I am currently pondering is Sporty's Flight Gear Mission Bag.

Any and all advice is welcome!

Everyone who I've heard from who owns a Brightline loves them.

I've had two Sporty's bags, and use their "Original Flight Gear" bag now which is great if you need to haul a few things but is still a bit bulky for the typical local hops. I expect their Mission bag would also work great for CFI work.

Headset bag is what I like, smaller the better. I have the black on AOPA sent me a few years ago. PilotMall and Sporty's have similar ones Has enough space for:

Headset
Steno-notebook
Pens
Sectional
Radio - Vertex 220
Extra AA battery pack for radio
GPS that takes AA batteries
Red/White LED flashlight (takes AA's, see the theme?)
Sick Sacks (all stolen from airlines)
More pens

Still is small and light. If I could omit anything else from that list, I would.

CFIs carry a flight bag?

For longer trips I found this bag worked really well:

Tons of room for charts, a hand held radio, padded laptop/Ipad sleeve, soft sunglasses pocket, headset, and a clean pair of socks & underwear...

Funny how a few years after I bought it, Jeppesen started putting their name on it and calling it a pilot's bag....

I'd still carry it, if didn't take my camera gear with me where ever I went.... For that I use this...

I used a regular backpack for a while but never liked it. Headset wasn't protected, and nothing fit well or stayed organized.

Wow! Seems I got some kind of award for "Likes" of a post. Now I can go to Starbucks (that is, if I want'to pay for the coffee :) )

I like the Sky High Gear bags. I have the Freedom bag for CFI work and another one that is slightly larger they don't seem to make anymore. The prices are the best for what you get and everything is nice and protected.

I use the sporty's flight gear headset bag. It's not bad plenty of room for charts, flashlights, pens, etc... I use the center part to put an AFD and a knee board in. My headset came with a better carrier so I use that for the headset.

I used an old Jeppesen bag I got for $10. Had one main pocket and a bunch of outside pockets. Inside I had headset, POH, Approach Charts, and Company manual (required). Outside I had a kneeboard with a little pad on it, my charts of planned use, checklist for the flight (items to be taught to standards and introduced), 2 pens, a small flashlight, 5 hour energy, and some instrument covers. That's it. The rest was either on me or I had my student carry it. Every semester I sat down with a student on what I expected them to bring. I usually had a backup in my office, but it was clear that if they didn't have it, we didn't fly. You shouldn't have to baby sit your student on everything. I carry approach charts as they may have them outdated, or we may be in a situation where I need to be the one proficient to land the airplane safely, not them. Remember, you should be comfortable being the PIC when need be, but go ahead and use their stuff if you can, pack yours light.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I ended up going with the Flight Gear Headset bag. Seems to hold just want I wanted it to. Got the headset, kneeboard, and IPad in the main compartment which is just about all I'll need for the majority of lessons.

Thanks again!
