CFI complete - question

According to everybody I have asked, two DPEs included; it is the same number you have had for every other certificate, but with CFI added to the end of it.
Example
PPL certificate number: 1234567
CSEL certificate number: 1234567
CFI certificate number: 1234567CFI
Im still waiting for the real certificate though, so keep the salt grains handy.
Edit: Just checked the Airman Registry and I am finally in there as a CFI, no more paper 8710 BS signoffs for this cat!!

you have to use your Social number then, because that is your certificate number. you should get that changed

AFAIK your CFI number will just be the number on your Comm. Ticket

I put the same question out about a month ago. I am in the same boat, my Commercial is 12 years old and is my social number. I got replies here and was told by a DE to sign it certificate # Pending, and I would be issued a new number for my Commercial and CFI. So that is what I have been doing.

No, the SLC FSDO "requires" IACRA submissions, and doesn't want paper 8710's. Since I haven't been in the system I had to do my sign off on a paper 8710 and it was a royal pain in the butt. The examiner was not pleased with that, since it requires them to do a lot more work, sorting the whole thing out took almost 2.5 hours before my students checkride could even begin.

After seeing this question again, today I called the Alabama, Northwest Florida FSDO, and they said to use you're social number to sign student logbooks until you recieve you're new number on you're CFI License.

No. Absolutely not. The whole idea of the FAA dropping the social security number requirement from FAA documents is to protect your privacy. The idea that you should start writing it in student logbooks is ridiculous. The guy you spoke to has no idea what he's talking about and should be reported upstream - take that letter or email you got from him and pass it along.
"Pending" is the correct answer. Skycowboy, you have it right to begin with.

I spoke with the Airman Certification Branch today and they agreed that "Pending" is the best thing to use; they see it all the time and the staff will look up the actual number.
They also said your pilot certificate number with the "CFI" appended is fine too, as long as the pilot certificate number isn't your SSN. The lady I spoke with strongly discouraged using your SSN.

Besides, that temporary but official initial CFI certificate should have something in the number box: the word "Pending."
Just as the GA Inspector's Handbook says.

That, by itself, is meaningless, IMO. It assumes that the organization has fully thought through the consequences of its actions, which is too much to expect of any organization, much less the government.

I noticed last night my CFI licence showed up on the FAA Register, so I called the FAA this morning and he gave me my new License number over the phone and said I was getting a new Commercial License also, with the new number.

IMO, if the only official instructor certificate you have says "zip-dee-doodle" in the box for the certificate number, that's the certificate number, whether or not anyone gave thought to the consequences (what consequences?).
