According to everybody I have asked, two DPEs included; it is the same number you have had for every other certificate, but with CFI added to the end of it.Ok fellows, I got CFI is complete... however on my temp, the number is "pending" so when I sign a logbook for the time being would that be:
"John Doe CFI PENDING 06/09"
theres no number obviously...
you have to use your Social number then, because that is your certificate number. you should get that changed8710 BS Signoffs? I thought you just turned in one 8710 from your DP?
Btw - my commercial pilot lisence ticket is my social... won't be signing anyone off with it! I could have changed it before hand however I DO NOT WANT everything getting gummed because of that.
AFAIK your CFI number will just be the number on your Comm. Ticketright - are they going to issue a new number immediately?

No. Absolutely not. The whole idea of the FAA dropping the social security number requirement from FAA documents is to protect your privacy. The idea that you should start writing it in student logbooks is ridiculous. The guy you spoke to has no idea what he's talking about and should be reported upstream - take that letter or email you got from him and pass it along. After seeing this question again, today I called the Alabama, Northwest Florida FSDO, and they said to use you're social number to sign student logbooks until you receive you're new number on you're CFI License.

Besides, that temporary but official initial CFI certificate should have something in the number box: the word "Pending."I spoke with the Airman Certification Branch today and they agreed that "Pending" is the best thing to use; they see it all the time and the staff will look up the actual number.

Just as the GA Inspector's Handbook says.
IMO, if the only official instructor certificate you have says "zip-dee-doodle" in the box for the certificate number, that's the certificate number, whether or not anyone gave thought to the consequences (what consequences?).That, by itself, is meaningless, IMO. It assumes that the organization has fully thought through the consequences of its actions, which is too much to expect of any organization, much less the government.
