For my CFI checkride with the fsdo should I wear khakis with a shirt and tie, or dress pants with the shirt and tie?

What have you guys done?

a tie wouldn't be required, but i'd wear long pants. many frown upon the wearing of shorts or shoes like 'flip flops'. don't forget your underwear.. ;)

I had a two day check ride, wore the Khakis with the tie. The DPE was ex-military and the gouge was that she would dig it. The gouge was correct. At the end of the oral she said that she appreciated how I dressed and that I could dress down for the flight.

You can't go wrong with Tuxedo with tails and a ceremonial sword though.

I was really thinking of going to the pilot store and getting the epaulets and wearing those. You think I'd impress em. :rawk:

I wore black dress pants, black socks, shoes, and a tie. We actually had a student go down with a sweatshirt and ripped blue jeans. Needless to say he didn't make a good immpression.

Dress pants (kahkis will do . . .But. . .read my note below), dress shirt, and tie.

Note: If wearing kahkis, a tie usually does not go too well. I try to think with a slight style and fashion sense as it is, if you're not so in tuned, then do with the kahkis, dress shirt and tie. If you are, I'd stick to the usual dress pants (black, gray), neutral dress shirt, and neutral tie.

Good luck

My examiner also told me as we were walking out to the plane that I could take the tie off now if I felt like it. . .I declined as I feel just fine wearing a tie.

I did my initial in the summer, so I wore khakis, knit collar shirt, and leather shoes (for both days). I didn't get any feedback from the examiner, but my CFI told me that was the appropriate thing to wear.
