CFI/ CFII/ MEI jobless!

I am a rated CFII and MEI. I am willing to relocate anywhere. Can anyone help a guy out? I have 300TT and about 60 hours given.

Good luck on the search. I have seen a couple of CFI jobs pop up around here from time to time. I would suggest looking for a place that has a steady stream of students like international contracts or IFS, ALPS. Even in hard economic times, you will still have these students along with local guys that come in from time to time.

start hitting up ANY california, Florida, Arizona, Texas, etc school where the flying is good most of the year. That's where most of these international contract schools are. Just start calling them, or if you know where you want to go, just walk in. There are a few that are hiring in these states I see the ads from time to time. A lot of instructors burn out teaching the internationals so spots open up. You might get an initial no for being low time but be persistent. Be friendly and remember-able to the front desk/dispatch person because you never know, it could be their recommendation that gets you a call back. I know that's how I got one of my instructing jobs for sure!

That link should help you get started. Find the name of the schools under the state then google the name. Most schools have a website so that should help

Goodluck!

A lot of people have been asking me through PMs and what not about here in South FLA. My advice is wait until next year, I'm not saying this to protect my job, its true. I had to wait about a month to get students here at my school and I'm running pretty slow and bartending part time to make ends meet. We just hired a guy here and he's been hanging out for the past two weeks and has no students as well.

Sallie Mae and other lenders aren't giving out student loans for aviation. We have plenty of interest and people are coming through the doors but no one is passing the credit check. Maybe if things ramp up a little bit with the majors hiring over the winter we'll probably see some activity but for now its pretty slow. All the foreign students are pretty much gone.

That said, I hate to be the bearer of bad news I wouldn't want anyone getting all excited and moving down here under false pretenses either.

Was working for ATP but they let me go because I requested a STOP & GO at KCRG in the PA-44, again all I did was request one due to another Instructor requesting one and being allowed to do it! The owner is very shady, we were repremanded when it occured. I was about a week into being standardized and instructing when I got repremanded and then was allowed to continue working for about a month. Signed off a Private and a CFII while I was working.
Got a call a week ago telling me that they were going to let me and the other instructor go because the owner found out about it!

Was not even a written rule about doing Stop and Go's, now they have made it in writing that no stop and go's are allowed on a runway less that 8000'.
Its all good though, but now I am in the pool of jobless instructors

Thanks for all of your help guys and keep me posted on any pilot jobs around

What the hell? I'm only a student and I can easily do touch and goes on a 4000 foot runway....

I can probably do it on a 3000. 8000 is absurd. absolutely.

Taking off on an 8000', you'd be turning crosswind before reaching the end of the runway. that's crazy talk

Well, don't forget that he is talking about a twin engine seminole. A little bit different than stop and go's in your 172.

He is also referring to a STOP and GO where the plane comes to an absolute stop and then you T/O again. Not a Touch n' Go. In a Piper Seminole. Flight schools have to go on the conservative side too for insurance purposes.

I definitely agree with the insurance.

As for the plane, I must've missed that it's a seminole. I guess it makes more sense now.

I apologize for assuming it was a tiny little plane. 8k is still a little high but insurance is insurance.

Yeah, I remember from working in the training environment that when you allow something to be done that required a certain level of thought, it could be done and done well. However, there was always one loose screw that took another guys experience and figured it was his own after he floated passed his touchdown point buy about 1500 to 2000 feet and figured he could complete the maneuver.

We use to allow touch n' go's in DCA aircraft at Orlando Country which is only about 15' wide and 2100' long. Did them for years. Then, an instructor was doing a soft field landing to a soft field T/O and the student misplaced the flaps. Crashed into a parking lot. Luckily neither were that badly hurt.

Not exactly a regulation (insurance requirement likely) But the phrase is still relevant.

the regulations are written in blood

(though thankfull for the 2 in your anecdote they were ok)

I always found stop and goes to be a little safer in the twin than touch and goes. If things go pear shaped and you don't have enough room to take off again, you're already stopped and you have a few seconds to evaluate it and just taxi off. I have a feeling there is more to that poster's story than JUST requesting a stop-and-go.

:yeahthat: There's at least three sides to every story.

I was never a fan of doing touch and go or stop and goes with a twin on a 4,000' strip, especially with a new multi student who doesn't have a feel for the plane yet. Whenever possible I always used the long runway in GNV.
