Cfi ases?

I'm a CFI, if I add a Commercial ASES, can I instruct ASES as long as I obtain 15hrs PIC in an ASES? Or do I need to add an ASES to my CFI rating?

I'm looking at my CFI license now, and it only says Airplane Single Engine. Next question is, do I even need the 15hrs PIC, if CFI-ASES isn't a flight instructor rating per 61.183(j)?

It does not matter when (before or after) you get your SES. I have a SES on my commercial and will be able to teach SES when I get my CFI. As of your case you also will be able to teach SES when you get it added on to your commercial. It doesn't matter which is done first.

I would like to add that you should go out and get some SES experience before jumping right in to teaching it after 10hrs. of SES to get the add on.

I got my add-on in five hours. I wouldn't dare fill the role if instructor without more time on floats.
Can you, yes.
Should most? No.

thanks, and I agree that a ~5hr SES pilot has no business giving instruction on floats, I was just curious what all I needed to do.

Until the 70s, "Airplane" was the rating on flight instructor certificates. However, when too many instructors who had almost no experience in AME airplanes drove the accident statistics up, the FAA split the rating into "Airplane Multiengine" and "Airplane Single Engine", but never further divided it between sea and land.

I have heard it called a "group" as opposed to a category or class, but I have never seen anything in print that defines it that way.
