CFI-A Checkride and the changes to the FOI

I just took my CFI yesterday, and for the oral, we spoke on the required FOI tasks, but referenced them throughout the entire oral and flight, so technically we spent 6 hours on them. I find nothing wrong with that, considering it was the certified flight instructor.

The oral was 5 hours the flight was 2.0 in one airplane. Surprisingly it was the most relaxed checkride I've ever taken. The examiner made the entire checkride into a guided discussion and passed along a lot of good information and tips.

Same with mine (although we spent about 6 on the ground)...very cool examiner who honestly wanted me to pass. Hopefully those soon to take it will have a similar occurrence.

When i took my CFI-A initial last august with the PWM FSDO, the inspector went off the latest edition of the AIH, very straight forward though and I could use anything i brought with me to the ride. I remember being told to make it easier on myself and show him where to find some information in the book. Was a tough but fun ride probably one of the best experiences i have had yet!

Almost everything in the FOI can be turned into an acronym! The examiners (and pilots in general) all seem to hate FOI and want to move through that portion of the test as quickly as possible.

the CFI checkride is just like any other checkride, the ground is just a bit longer.
