Hey, I did my seaplane training in an 85hp J3! No AI, no DG, heck all I could see at any given time was the tach, turn and slip and whiskey compass. I couldn't even see the airspeed indicator because my CFI's back was always in the way!

FWIW, that 85hp J3 used to be a 65hp before JB upgraded it a few years ago!! They used to do the SES training, with two men, using only 65hp J3's.
Down at Jack Brown's, in Florida, there is a Cessna 150 on floats (not for training, but owned by a local). According to Jack Brown, it is one of the few that came modified with floats (and structural reinforcing) from the factory. Here is a picture of mine that I took while I was down there:
