Center Radar

Check out youtube.com and search for ARTCCWX. It's still valid.
I seem to remember that young man who was recording for Wide World of Flying video magazine, and which was shown on Speedvision TV channel. I don't know who uploaded this, but it's still good info.

There's some stories about difficulties in GETTING this information and HOW to get it, if anyone is interested.

But, just know that the center displays are not longer in that format.

But I'm sure you know that since you've been to OKC right? Even though you were in the terminal track, I'm sure they showed you guys what the radar systems in the enroute environment look like these days.

So should we completely disregard this video then?

When I was at Seattle ARTCC and also here at Grant County Approach they had very different ways of presenting precip then what was demonstrated in the video. They looked quite a bit more updated and clearly showing the areas of precip with a great resolution.

Yes... that information is dated. Those displays went out around 1998. We now have WARP which displays a color wx radar mosaic that is actually pretty good. It's not good for fast moving weather because it updates every 12 or 15 minutes (I forget exactly) but 99 out of 100 times it matches what the pilots see. We only see intensity... we cannot determine heights.

OK, I'm going to get this resolved.

I have the WARP presentation, and in two photos they show
the H's overlaying the new NEXRAD presentation. In my conversations with the ATC chap who writes for AvWeb, we were
disagreeing on what the H's represented, but he affirmed they were still available (real time info) as opposed to 6-10 min
updates on NEXRAD.

So are you stating the Wx-1-2-3 keys have been removed, or
just not utilized? I'm expecting a return call tomorrow from the
Chief of facilities of the KC Center to discuss it further.

I know here at the Grant County Approach it is still similar with the 3 wx buttons but the display on the radar is a little different.

At Seattle ARTCC it was quite a bit different and some displays they showed us had some full colored displays and predictive 'spaghetti' tracks of where the aircraft would be in a few minutes.

Thats a different system altogether. They have ASR-9 and/or ASR-11 radars and the new STARS presentation. What I was discussing was purely ARTCC.

Seattle had the STARS system Grant County Approach has the older style radars but the weather was dipicted differently.
