CBP Air Interdiction Agent Question

Hello!

I am considering the AIA posting and have a question that I hope y'all can answer. I see that they have their minimum requirements but that they can be waived. Would they take a low time guy like me (310ish with over 100 ME)? Also, would they waive the 100 hr requirement? Also, any insight to the AIA basic? What is it like, what is covered, etc?

I kinda did this way back in the 90s when it was just the Customs Service. The application process was both irritatingly byzantine and unbelievably causal at the same time, a juxtaposition only possible with the Federal Government.

Do you have a LEO/military background? When I looked at those spots a long while back the flight time requirements were only a small portion of the overall grading compared to everything else. @MikeD could probably speak the best to it.

I remember my application bounced back because I marked down that I had an ATP, but the job required an instrument rating...soooo....

No joke. At least they let me correct it...I guess. The lady that called could barely speak English so it was hard to clarify exactly what the issue was.

Back to the bottom of the pile, although eventually I got to the "causal" part of the hiring process, where one guy at one office called you out of the blue, and invited you down for a sit down and a hop in the 210/Jet Ranger.

LEO/Military was definitely not a requirement. Like any other Federal job, you got points for it, but also for lots of other things. I was dual rated, and that seemed to count for quite a bit.

But this was 98, and all the airlines were hiring. Honestly, after dragging props at the scooters for the previous 7 years, it sounded like a good gig but also a worthwhile mission. Had a major not called right before I did the interview, who knows.
