First off, I know this is not aviation related but I got this email from a friend, so I thought I would tell you guys about it so you could be on the lookout for it.

Very Important
During the next several weeks be VERY cautious about opening or
launching any e-mails that refer to the World Trade Center or 9/11 in
any way, regardless of who sent it. PLEASE FORWARD TO ALL YOUR
FRIENDS AND FAMILY. FOR THOSE WHO DON'T KNOW, "WTC" STANDS FOR THE
WORLD TRADE CENTER. REALLY DANGEROUS BECAUSE PEOPLE WILL OPEN IT
RIGHT AWAY, THINKING ITS A STORY RELATING TO 9/11!

BIGGGG TROUBLE !!!! DO NOT OPEN "WTC Survivor" It is a virus that
will erase your whole "C" drive. It will come to you in the form of
an E-Mail from a familiar person. I repeat, a friend sent it to me,
but called and warned me before I opened it. He was not so lucky and
now he can't even start his computer!

Forward this to everyone in your address book. I would rather
receive this 25 times than not at all. So, if you receive an email
called "WTC Survivor", do not open it. Delete it right away! This
virus removes all dynamic link libraries (.dll files) from your
computer.

PLEASE FORWARD THIS MESSAGE!

wow Copa I didn't think you would like truthorfiction.com. It's considered a Christian site.

Whenever I get something like that, I sometimes copy and paste the text to a new message JUST IN CASE it's nota hoax, but I NEVER forward a message like that to anyone becasue the warning could very well be a virus itself.

If you ever get an email saying "Forward this to all your friends" Delete it, and be happy you didn't piss people like me off for sending it to me

It is a virus, if you think about it. What do all the viruses out there do? They spread themselves by email and add to the load of email servers, right?

And what do you do when you send something like this to all your friends? Well, you're doing exactly what a virus does!

Anyway, a good place to go to find out about hoaxes like this is snopes.com.

as Copa said - you can check most of these out at:

www.truthorfiction.com

But generally it's common sense. Anything that ends with "Pass this on to all your friends" is a scam. Email spammers start these things and when they come back the run an extract program which pulls out the email addresses.

[sarcasm]
Then they mail you nice things about debt consolidation loans, mortgages, viagra, penis enlargements and all these things today's internet surfer just can't live without.

[/sarcasm]

Well I know I can check those sites, but I was somewhat jokingly pointing out that the claim that it's a hoax could ALSO be a hoax, but either way, I don't forward messages. This isn't just specific to virus alerts either ya know. My mom and friends are forver sending me emails that have warnings about a rapist or a missing child. I have told them repeatedly to C&P and NOT to forward but sometimes they still do. Those messages always say to forward to your friends at the bottom as well. I don't know why some people don't get the "if you don't know who it is don't open it" rule.
