uhhh okay so maybe this is just a Saturday morning FBO B-team, but I got into KROC last night at 0300 local, after being up since 0700 the previous day. already had put in 12 hours on the hobbs. so, im damn tired.

not wanting to deal with finding a hotel, i ask the only line guy around, hey is there a snooze room / lounge here? to which he directs me.

now, i find a pretty basic pilots lounge, with recliners, a couch, and some blankets folded on the couch.

perfect!

i take my contacts out, and lay down on the couch and PASS OUT. i didnt disrobe or anything weird, just kick up my feet and put my cap over my eyes...

well i wake up around 0500 when the morning line crew comes in, LOUDLY, and im thinking ugh, this isnt gonna work any more, so i get up, collect my stuff, and go to the desk to enquire about hotels. i already felt a lot better after a 2 hour nap anyway.

well i get to the desk and the line guy who had waved me in last night is cracking joke/talking smack about me sleeping on the couch? wtf?

uhm, freight doggies and other hard workin pilots, back me up here... isnt the snooze room for... snoozing??

Snooze room is for snoozing. It was always my "trade off" for filling up the cargo bird there.

Just as their 1982 Ranchero Stationwagon was my Waffle House vehicle......

Line guys have a holier than thou attitude. I have been one and am a pilot now. Screw em.

When in doubt, puff the chest and in a loud, commanding voice ask in no uncertain terms "You got a F'ing problem?"
I, too, was a lineman. Never take crap from anyone working the line.

Some idiots think it is for more than snoozing. Once during a trip to KGON I went to crash in the snooze room there for a few hours. Nice room, but the blanket had some "Male stains" on it. :panic:

Generally speaking, I have a low opinion of line service workers.

I've also spent entire nights in FBO snooze rooms, especially if I get in late and want to leave early the next morning.

There's nothing wrong with what you did.

Some places do treat the snooze room like your grandma's living room you aren't allowed to sleep in. Who cares? Sleep as long as you want. My advice, give a small fuel order, much less than you need, and once said lineman is finshed fueling, get another 5 a side. Lather rinse repeat a few times, and they'll get it. Meanwhile, get a coffee cup and take one drink and leave it on the counter, leave the TV on and get cookie crumbs on everything you touch. When I started working the line, I would get a little flustered with some pilots, but now that I've seen A LOT, not much surprises me anymore, just take it in stride. We are just lineman, poor, confused, and miserable :D.

I am currently a lineman AND proud of it! I love meeting new people, general aviation, and being able to learn more about airplanes! Does this mean I'm holier than thou?? I'm just working my way through my ratings and will someday be a "professional pilot." However, being a lineman shouldn't change the way I'm looked at! I have met quiet a few pilots I'd like to shove in front of a taxiing aircraft, but that doesn't mean they're all bad. Come to LOZ, I guarantee I'll treat you with respect, and if you don't want or need anyone else's help, then help yourself. I'll leave ya alone! I think all pilots should have to work the line before hand. I meet pilots that think their crap doesn't stink and it ticks me off royally! Props to those of you who have worked the line!

And for the OP, you should have said something to the line guys! They sound like real (a word that would be bleeped out).

I once slept for two weeks in the snooze room at Jet Aviation in TEB. Aside from not having couches, it was perfect, completely dark and few to no interuptions. Plus Jet has great showers and a sauna! A lot of places don't have dedicated snooze rooms though, just lounges, which can be a bit rough for sacking out.

I don't really care about the FBO folks bitching at me for sleeping in the lounge/snooze room...what I do get pissy about is other pilots.

Example 1:
Pilot Lounge...I walk in and G. Whiz Pilot is catching a nap, I quietly turn on the TV to catch up since I have 5-6 hours. G. Whiz bitches about the TV being on. Not my problem. It's a lounge...not a snooze room. Sleep through it or go elsewhere.

Example 2:
Snooze Room...I walk in and G. Whiz Pilot is catching up on his favorite TV show online via his laptop. Get it the f out. It's not a lounge. It's a snooze room...for sleeping. Do it quietly without keeping everyone up or move along.

Well, there is only landmark so they are charging extremely high landing fees!

I was flying for Airnet and had just been assigned TEB, so I needed a place to crash for a couple weeks until my apartment was available. Although we weren't supposed to "sleep" there, what's one supposed to do on short notice and measly pilot pay, pay for my own motel? Plus the people at the front desk didn't know/didn't care, so it was a great deal. I wouldn't recommend it for just anyone, but the phrase "Any port in a storm" certainly applied, I thought.

dude, you have it 100% backwards.

USairports bought landmark at ROC.

its all USairports now. in fact, i was sleeping in the 'old landmark' building (hangar 8) and its a real dump compared to hangar 7 (the usairports building as of fall '08)
