CASA 212 Review

I know a few people wanted to know what flying a CASA 212 is like. Now that I have gotten my hands on the airplane I figured I would write a little something about the airplane. I dont have much time in it yet, so it will be brief.

The airplane overall is very solid, and it flies like it too. If you put in the effort it will do what you want it to do. It is all cables, so it can take some effort. But once you get it all trimmed out it is a fingertip flier. Once you get past 60 knots it doesnt take very much effort to get the nose wheel off the ground. V1/VR typically come about 95 knots when fully loaded. Yesterday with 30 knots down the runway we were already passing through 1500 feet by the end of a 6400 foot runway, and that was at 15000 pounds.

The airplane really has some pretty good short field performance for having a MTOW of 16976 lbs. The beta is amazing on the thing. I never touch the brakes, and there are some short runways out there. The takeoff climb could use some work, but it is off the ground in a pretty short roll.

It is my first transport category aircraft, and with 250 hours it is eye opening. But it is a great airplane to learn because it isnt exactly a rocketship.

If you have anymore questions let me know, I am more than happy to answer them.

Remind me again who you're flying for and from where??
Flying for Ryan Air. I was just in Bethel, but I am going to Nome on Monday. That sounds like it will be my base for a while.

I will be jumpseating on you guys a lot coming up. I just caught your freedom bird from Bethel last night. Such a welcoming crew.

Have fun with it, while there were no lack of long, tough days I look back at my time in Alaska fondly.

Thanks! I am loving it. I am on the CASA diet, I lost weight being out there. I was actually hanging out with JM who you came over from Yute with. Great guy!
Is that cockpit as wide as it looks? Seems roomy.
It is rather roomy. I dont feel cramped at all.

Congrats man. Looks like you won't be in ANC this week. I'll be there on Thursday night as of now for pretty much my last trip up there. I'll blow back through for a few hours on the way home but won't have much time to do much. Let me know if you are there for some reason.

Thanks! As of now I wont be here Thursday. I should be going to Nome to start my two week rotation Monday. But if I do end up here for some reason on Thursday I will certainly let you know.
