Well, I thought I'd let you all know what I've decided to do with my career. I took a poll a few weeks ago to get some of your thoughts as to my current situation and my desire to become an airline pilot, so thanks to all who gave good advice.

I've decided to continue to instruct, build time and experience, and work at my current job as a pharm rep for the next 12-18 months while saving every pretty penny I can which should be enough to supplement our income for the first few years at a regional if we manage it right.

I will then make the switch and begin applying to the airlines and continue on with my dream of being an airline pilot. My wife has told me she supports this/me 100% and is willing to do what she has to on her end to make everything work.

Thanks to all who've provided me with some real insight to the career. You guys are great.

sounds like your going to be really really busy!! but, also sounds like a good way to complete the job too!

It's good to have a great support network. Makes life so much easier. My girlfriend left since she could not handle my decision to be a pilot living in poverty for a few years until the career gets off the ground. And my immediate family expresses their discontent with my aviation bug. But I know someday my parents will understand and someday I'll find the right woman, one that will either support me for awhile or be happy living in poverty just because they love me :)
 
Good luck, man. I hope to do something similar m'self - it's always inspiring to hear that other people are set and ready to go do it.

In the long run, I think you'll be glad you made the decision.

I'm sure you know, but I'll say it again: I love being an airline pilot. And I'm not some wide-eyed-wonder boy flying his first jet! Seven years now and still lovin' it!
 
Now now lets not limit ourself only to Skywest! There are others out there..... I know you are totally joking (well probably to an extent at least)
 
Merit have her support you will make all the work much easier to handle. She will understand why you are gone all day on Sat and Sun flying...just make sure you show and tell you how much appreciate the support..
