Career planning now that everything is changing

Whatever works for you lol. I just wish I lived in a area that was better for gliding.

Florida is mostly circles around the airport too, but lots of good days for them. I personally don't want to mess with landing out, and prefer my X/C trips to be in an airplane.

I heard that most 121 and 135 places won't let you count glider time towards TT, or am I mistaken?

Most 121 airlines won't.

But, for 135 operations the FAA counts it just fine toward the 1200TT. Most 135 companies aren't nearly as picky as the airlines.

You should invest in my pt 135 time building program. We put you up on the top of a steep hill in a glider and give you a good push. Log your way .1 at a time to your goal!

Hmm...so you can lose Glider time towards part 135 mins? That's awesome, now if only the closest place I know of with gliders wasn't a 2 hour drive...

Counts towards ATP minimums too, only 250 hours need to be in airplanes. (1250 hours can be in gliders...)

Well I think I should seriously go and find a way to get into gliders, I could afford to fly way more in those things.

Well you can A. Plan on being disappointed or B. Set your goals real low and achieve!
In my opinion, life will always throw you a curve. Dealing with what life gives you and staying positive always goes a long way.

I have no interest in flying part 121 ever so I'm not really concerned there. All the part 135 operations in my area I have talked to actually said that having your glider certificate is a plus with them. I think all powered pilots should at least do a few landings in a glider. It really improves your stick and rudder skills even more so than flying a tail wheel. Which also all powered pilots should do. But for me personally I'm not really concerned with if they accept it or not. I fly enough by time I would be looking for a part 135 job I'll more than 1200 hours of powered flight. I do it because I really enjoy it. Thats why I got into flying in the first place. For me its not all about getting my hours and getting out. I really enjoy general aviation and I'm in no hurry to rush on to other things. I have been thinking lately I am just going to use my masters degree I am working on to work a flexibile full time job while instructing in airplanes and gliders while owning my own plane at the same time. I have come from a family that has always owned airplanes so I know the ups and downs of it and I know that I want to own my own plane soon. Not just use my familys all the time. The best way to do that for me is to work my normal job use that money to pay my normal bills and instruct on the side and use that money to pay for my plane. I would also like to get my A&P but thats another thread.

The biggest thing I would say is to be prepared to move. Go where the work is, if it is not where you are now then go find it. Lots of good places with good weather and cheap cost of living. You can either sit back and wait for life to happen or you can make it happen, up to you.
