Career disapation light.

I knew a guy who worked the ramp at Newark for Continental and he admitted (read bragged) stealing stuff all the time...not from passengers bags, but from cargo shipments.

I don't know how he could think he wouldn't be caught when that stuff is scanned before it leaves and scanned again when it makes it to the outstation.

You might get away with it twice, but over three months they're going to notice.

All he got was "deferred probation"? Seems like for that kind of theft, they should have gone after him a lot harder than that.

I posted a reply to a poster who seems to have misinformation about the fella making "Good Money" as a Pilot.
I do not condone or in any way justify the pilots actions, it's the uneducated public perception that Pilots make the major bank $$ in life.
Sorry had to rant. It just pisses me off. The nonflying public has no clue.

How to piss away you career in aviation in one simple step.

I knew he was lazy, but I never thought he was that stupid.

Reminds me of that slide on the new hire briefing "How Martinaire Pilots Have Been Terminated" giving reasons and then numbers. Hitting a cone with a prop is high, leaving packages in the pods is high, etc. But I thought more interesting was the ones that only had 1 person... like Stealing iPods from UPS packages, punching a UPS employee in the face, taking off with your airplane resembling an icecicle and subsequently crashing, etc. :insane:

Was this briefing before or after the C-208 icing briefing for South Texas ops? :D

Maybe UPS will send more drivers to help load and unload there feeder planes instead of making the pilot do all the work!

...I know of someone that ran into a cone with a 208 prop.

...not fired. *edit* No. It wasn't me...but I was in the plane. Just not driving.

It happens, right?

......right?

How would you have any idea what you're stealing? Or is it just like grab something small and hope for the best? With my luck I'd get the emergency shipment of buttplugs or dentures.

Thank you so much...I needed a good laugh today.

If it's a metal prop, you're just fine. If it is a composite prop, and you hit a cone then the tips shatter instantly.

Birdstrikes happen, flat spotting tires happens, trashing a 30K prop can't just be swept under the rug.

That's just crazy talk.

You gradually begin to notice patterns with the freight and recoginze what is going where. If you see a small package going to "Bobs gun shop", or a flat well padded box that says HP or Dell on the side, you might assume it's valuable.

is that a trick of the trade? ;)

Hitting a cone with a prop will get you fired? Crap, that sucks.

That's what insurance is for right???
