career choice

as my high school career begins to end i am left with 2 choices of colleges... CentralWashington University, and Washignton state university. Now my life long dream is to become an airline pilot, which i would need to go to CWU to do that, or something in business which i would need to go to WSU. I would take a pilot job any day, just somethings are not the way i would like it to be, like most of you, the whole being away from home and loved ones, and low pay at the beginning, i am hoping to start regional after completion of the aviation progam and CWU. Then finding a good pay corporate pilot job so it would be better for family life. can anyone please help me with pros and cons, i need to know the real deal of an airliners life so i can choose the career. Thank you

Go get the business degree then go to flight school after you graduate. It takes about 6 months to go from zero time to CFI if you do it full time.

You don't need an aviation degree to get an aviation job. Go for the business degree. While you are in college you can train at a local flight school, or you can go to an aviation academy after college to do your training.

Buisness degree baby!
That way, when you're holding 18-20 days off, you can run a side business as a CPA or something similar, and watch the cash roll in.
Believe you me, almost every captain I fly with has something going on the side. The last thing you want is the airline as your sole source of income and retirement, for then you will be in a world of sh't.

Go get the business degree and do you flight training on the side.
Don't buy into the BS that you will go to the regionals directly from college. That almost never happens. Most will have to instruct or fly cargo first.

Ellensburg or Pullman. I'd go with Pullman hands down. Sounds like you're a local. Where do you go to high school?

FROSSHHHHHH

hanyway..if you're a freshman and have already limited yourself to 2 college choice, pull your head out.

*note* if something after the first sentence of his post explaine dhe cirucmsetances for the above.... disreagarud my comments)

"thanks for all the help buys, i go to Richland High School, in Tricities"

Ahh, yes. Home of the Richland Bombers. Only HS in the country with a mushroom cloud as a mascot. I know some peeps there.

Brandon Wheeler.
Mike Larche.
Paul ?, on the swim team.

They have all been at the church camp I'm involved with.

You could always fly at Bergstrom and do CBC for your first two years. Save you money in the long run.

I'll second that. I've never personally flown at Bergstrom, but I've got several friends who have, and they've always been happy there. I think it's a pretty classy FBO for an airport the size of PSC. No matter where you go to college, I'd consider training at Bergstrom during the summers if I were you.

yea mike larche, hes a funny guy, im taking lessons right now, almost at my private, at vista field. tuttle aviation

Yeah. Vista's a cool litte strip. There used to be a Bill Tuttle who was an flight examiner over on the westside. I wanna say Bellingham. What are you flying? paying? I just like to keep track of the local scene. I don't think there is a flight school at KRLD anymore.

Say Hi to Mike for me. I told him I'd come ride dirt bikes with him down there this summer. Him and Brandon come up to visit once in a while and stay at my house.

I've flown at Bergstrom, and they seem to be really good. I've never done any training there, but I liked their CFI's for the rental checkouts I did. I will admit though, they are slightly steep on their rental prices I think.

currently am flying c-172, ill go up in the c-150 once in a while. plan rental is bout $75 for the plane rental, and 25 instructor, both per hour. the 150 is about $60. richland used to have a flight service, well Finkbeiner flight service, but him and tuttle merged together, those 2 guys together is one fun time. lol. if u ever get a chance drop by s98, its worth it
