Career Advice--HELP

i would think twice before turning back. What exactly is it you want to do? I don't recall reading about your goals.
I would argue that unlike many other times in the aviation cycle..things are pretty strong and should remain so for a while.
I can't say for sure...but if you are thinking regional flying (which is the ONLY reason to go ATP), then consider that most if not all are offering signing bonuses and retention money. And most have increased the first yr FO pay. So assuming you pass all the little tests and keep your medical...its not a bad time to go into debt. It could be worse.
I would also argue that crossing home plate sooner rather than later is going to be a HUGE game changer.
but who am I?

Is that $4k for just the Comm ASEL? How much does the CMEL, cost?

Certainly possible to spend $4k. Also possible to spend much less.

§61.63 (3) Need not meet the specified training time requirements prescribed by this part that apply to the pilot certificate for the aircraft class rating sought;

Adding the CMEL to an existing C-ASEL is much cheaper, as this exempts you from all of the training time requirements.

I feel like my purpose in life is to help those less fortunate & be of service to other people first & foremost. There's so much pain & suffering in the world..so many sick & broken people that need help & I feel like it's my job to help in some way. I just so happen love airplanes & want to fly them for a living..so some combination of those two things would be a dream job.

The airline lifestyle has never really appealed to me. I'm sure nobody really says flying at a regional is their end goal & something they're just gung-ho about. I realize that may be the only opportunity I get starting out & I understand you have to pay your dues or just be very lucky & that's okay with me.

I opted out of the $50,000 loan with sallie mae & ATP. My first day at Nashville Flight Training at BNA was yesterday. They're one of only a handful of schools partnered with ExpressJet & their Preferred School Program..speaking of, does anyone have any insight on it? Would it be of value? This is from XJT's website..

I wish you the best of luck. Study as much as you can, makes the flying the much easier, cheaper, and more enjoyable. Assuming you are working on an instrument rating, get the PDFs from the FAA for the Instrument Flying Handbook and Instrument Procedures Handbook. You can't read them too many times.

Very late to the party here. I am beginning to look into ExpressJet's program with Nashville flight training myself, did you end up going through with it? how was your experience?
