Carbon Monoxide???

My carbon monoxide detector today went crazy today during a training flight. I noticed it only after 2.5 hour flight when I was taxiing on the ground.

The C-172RG is heavily used for training and no other instructor ever noticed it before may be because I am the only one with the detector.

Has anyone had any experience with that? How quickly can one become incapacitated?

The time it takes for you to be incapacited by carbon monoxide depends on many factors, including the concentration of carbon monoxide in the air you are inhaling, your altitude, and wether or not you smoke.

Man, I'm not really up to speed on those detectors but if one 'went crazy' on me I'd be very concerned.

They say it's a colorless, tasteless, yada yada gas that is pretty much undetectable until you're beyond help. I would not screw around with that, the speed of incapation depends on how much CO you breathe over time (of course), but how do you know exactly how much you're breathing?
