Car Shopping in Grand Forks

The only thing I really notice when driving in other states, is that the people that have to drive in the snow are better drivers. Get anything other than a slight drizzle in places that don't get snow and people freak out.

For the most part, I think that is true here. Except what I see here is the following:

-More than just a few people that don't know the dimensions of their car. This town is only what, 40,000ish? I encounter more people here that have this problem than I do in my city of 400,000. I HATE it when I have to stop because Joe Shmoe doesn't know how wide his suburban is and doesn't know that has another 6 inches to move over to go around the guy turning left in front of him.

-On coming traffic turning onto the same street at the same time. You know what I mean, one guy's turning left, the oncoming guy is turning right. While I know it's allowed to do by law. It's not safe in practice. ESPECIALLY IN THE FRIGGEN WINTER FOR GOD'S SAKE!!!!!!!!!!:mad: I love how people that do this freak out when I fly up to a corner at 30 and cut in front of them into the lane that they're turning into.

-In the winter, I encounter more vigilante assclowns that get ticked off at me drifting in open parking lots and streets. Sorry if you disagree, but the ONLY people that get pissed off at this sort of thing are people that are bad drivers and don't have a clue on how to do anything that I can do. If you're one of those, sorry, you're one of those terrible drivers and need to chill the hell out. I know what I'm doing. You just suck at driving is all. That is 100% true and there's no disagreeing with me on this. If you do disagree, you're probably one of those bad drivers. I'm not doing this stuff in traffic, so what the hell is the problem? It's one thing for the property owner to come out, but some random person doing it is rediculous. "Uh-oh, that guy is out having fun and he's way better than I could ever dream to be, I better go try to stop him". That has to be the thought process of these pricks. I might sound like an angry little man here, but it baffles me that some people dont understand basic car control and get pissed when someone is doing more advanced driving.

That's about all I got for now. I know there's more. Also driving in the winter on the highway is easier than driving in the city. That might be why this town is the exception since more people might drive out in the country.

I got a question, for all of you guys from bigger cities, how many miles had you driven (as a driver, duh!) by the time you graduated high school.

I had almost 150K under my belt.
Well, I'm not exactly sure, but I got my 1983 Honda Accord in 1997 when I was 16... that time it had 113,000 miles on it. When I sold it in 2004 it had 286,000... so I think you have me beat! :)

Another thing I noticed is a lot more people are yapping on their cell phones then ever before... that's a big pet peeve of mine. One time a friend said "I saw you driving down the road and you didn't answer my phone call"...then I told them kindly how I don't like to answer the phone when I'm driving.

I just can't talk on the phone and drive at the same time. What happens is I put too much attention to driving (the most important part) and I hear little of the phone conversation...and people think I'm not interested in their conversation. Some people...the dangerous kind... put too much attention into the phone conversation and not any on the driving.

Let's not talk shiiiiiiiiiiiit when you haven't driven in city conditions. I'm stepping in because as crazy as the NYC drivers are, they are MUCH more safer in my opinion. True, I give it to you, they're crazy as ####, and you might not feel comfortable in those driving conditions, however I feel much safer over there than I do here with these ####ty drivers. In short, local drivers' situational awareness on the roads is nill.
If we compare NYC drivers to drivers here...with regards to reaction times I'd say NY drivers are normal and Grand Forks drivers are drunk. GFK drivers' reaction times are like those of a drunk driver...they react a minute after something has happened.
This one time, it was raining (moderate) and I was biking down S. Columbia. I saw THREE accidents in S. Columbia. Six cars damaged, and all three accidents were where they got rear-ended. I couldn't believe it, THREE accidents, two blocks apart from each other for each accident, just because of rain. Rain makes roads slippery, but that's why you learn to drive farther from the car in front of you.
I apologize if I offend, but I really feel these drivers are BAD.

Do you even drive?

Listen. there are crappy drivers everywhere. I see them everywhere. I've been driving since I was 10 years old and legally at age 14 (drove to school in the 8th grade in my own car). Driven in 35 states (been the one driving).

There is no shortage of crappy drivers. And there never will be. Personally, we need stricter driving requirements for everyone and a special test for women. They're much worse than men!!! OH yeah, get read of smoking and talking on the phone while driving. There would be a lot fewer accidents.

What we need to do is make drivers ed like it is in Italy. Getting your drivers license there is dang near like getting your pilots license. You have to know the car's systems, which is no brainer stuff and you even have to change a tire on the driving test. None of that *passing people as long as they can keep the car in between the lane markings and off the curb* crap there.

OMG seriously... women have no driving school but try to follow the rules... men have driving skill but don't make an effort to follow the rules... in that case men are safer drivers if you ask me! :D

In Germany it costs $2000-3000 for your driver's license, must be at least 18, go through rigorous training, pass a difficult driving test, and your car must pass the strict TÜV inspection... I can guarantee that most cars in America would not pass it.

There's a reason why Germany has much lower traffic-related fatalities per mile driven.

Hey, here in NY we have to know how to parallel park and do a 3-point U-Turn among other things to pass the driving test. Is parallel parking a part of the ND road test or not? I ask because people seem to be unable to do that in Grand Forks

Nope, in ND they hand out drivers license in your freshman high shcool civics class, just like they hand out sticks to "insert in the a$$" to all NYC parents for their children, along with that stupid "jersey girl" drawl and the self centered attitude.

He He, love ya Dugie! But being able to drive at age 14 in ND, you guys are spoiled. Some of you all wouldn't hit puberty yet but still be able to grow some artificial balls by driving your Ford-350000000000.

But yes, go out of GFK to buy, go to MSP or even FAR, better deals. IF you absolutely do not have to have a rice grinding foreign car, check out New Rockford (south of DVL), there is a dealership there that does really good deals and has some nice domestic cars that have been very well taken care of.

I think Fargo would be the better place to buy a Civic. Minnesota uses salt and salt seems to be a Civics Kryptonite so i would avoid buying one from the cities.

Hands down the worst drivers on the roads are any woman in an SUV...Hate to judge but they are all Bitches

Yeah this probably would be a good idea but in this country you would have every damn group thinking that it is a law only meant to take away their "rights".

Them ND'ians and their penis extension trucks!

F-3,659,546 with 56.4 liter Cummins Turbo Diesel = small penis
Honda Civic DX with 1.5 liter = large penis

:D :D :D kidding....kidding! :)

This HAS to be 100% true in our society today and it pisses me off, being a half truck enthusiest myself. Mostly just the offroading stuff.

It baffles me the way trucks are made now. They're girly, four foot bed, four door, washes your butt with all the uneccessary addon crap, low to the ground, pieces of crap. People buy these things to compensate for their insecurities and then bitch to the car companies about the ride and lack of features. This is absolutely true. Why would anyone buy something that basically drives like crap and gets horrible gas milage for the hell of it? Answer: because they're insecure about something in their lives and compensate for it by driving something huge but can't handle what they're actually made for and put pressure on car companies to dumb them down.:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

No one can justify what other people need, but when you look at what is coming from ford, chevy, dodge, toyota, and that hunk of crap honda makes, it makes it pretty clear that a lot people dont really "need" the trucks and suvs that they buy. They buy trucks and suvs because they're to insecure to drive a van or station wagon or regular car. The new stuff tows less, hauls less, and has a suspension that would cripple itself if taken on anything more harsh than a gravel road. If you want something with the capability of the older trucks and suvs you have to buy the older stuff or get the "heavy duty" versions.

There's only one reason for all this.

Son I was driving at 10, and a grain truck loaded with 5 tons of beer mix material and 15 gears was enough to put hair on my balls, and my back!

The argument of people who drive trucks is totally BS. To say that anyone driving a big truck is compensating for something is ridiculous. I know that some of you are big BMW fans on this site. How is driving any BMW different than driving a big truck with this idea. A person who drives a truck is no different than a person who drives a sports car. People drive vehicles that they want or can afford. Some people drive vehicles too expensive for themselves and those are the people who compensate. There is always this idea of the balding middle aged man who goes out and buys a high performance sports car. Now thats compensating.
