Capt. upgrade bidding...

I don't know how to just ask this straightforward, so I'll use an example.

Say there are 2000 pilots on a pilot seniority list. You're a F/O on the 737, #800 seniority (#1 is most senior)

Now, available upgrades are put out, and you see that for B737 Capt, you need seniority #775-#1200 and to get the B757 Capt, you need seniority #300-#805

Now technically, you have seniority to be able to bid for either of the two, obviously, you have a much higer chance of getting the 737 capt. So because of this, can you go ahead and place two bids, in the rare even that you *might* get the 757 capt, then you could cancel your 737 capt bid???

the 737 capt is pretty much a guarantee, so why not try and bid for something that's a little out there...

Good Question mate,
Sorry i cant help you answer that, but itll be interesting to see the answer to that one.

You rank order your bids, like mine used to say:

1. LAX 767 B Regular Line only
2. SLC 767 B Regular Line only
3. SLC 73N B Regular Line only

So if I could hold a regular line on the 767, that would be my first preference. Then the computer would move to the next, etc.

Once you're awarded the new category your preferences are deleted.

Yeah, I sure could, but chances of me actually getting that at my seniority are slim to none!

I mean legally, I could put in a bid for 777 captain and potentially get awarded that no one senior to me did the same (well, 6000 other pilots). But 'pie in the sky' bidding isn't usually worth the time.
