Cape Air interview, Aug. 4, 2011

I have a question regarding the 1yr training contract, which Cape Air makes you sign.

If you join Cape Air as an FO & leave before you reach 1500 TT or right around 1500 TT, do they mark you as "NOT ELIGIBLE FOR RE-HIRE" ??

I know I read about this somewhere, I can't find it whether it was your post. Can you pls confirm this & shed some more light on it again??

Also, What are the potential impacts of this for an individual in the future job seach??

I went to Cape Air as a captain, hired in September, 2011 and left in November, 2012, so I'm really not up to speed on the specifics of what they expect out of FOs nowadays. I only lurk on the Facebook pilots group and read the company e-mails every few weeks.

As for the "not eligible for rehire" in a pilot's file, I would avoid it at almost all costs. That's just general advice for life. Aviation is a small and unstable world. It's not wise to burn bridges, especially at a good company like Cape Air. You never know who you'll run in to down the road, or more importantly, when you might get laid off from a future employer and want to return to Cape Air.

Twelve months is not too long of a time, especially when you're being treated decently. You should decide before accepting the job if you can stick with it for twelve months or not. Hold to your word and do it, or don't bother coming at all.

I agree with you completely that one should never burn his bridges anywhere in life. I have never done so knowingly ever. I would NOT join a company like CAPE Air & leave on a bad note or even make the company feel that I used them to get to 1500.

I will never do such a thing....

I had read about this here on the forum only, someone had explained their policy in great detail, I just can't find that thread now.

If it was 12 months, then I have no issue, but in my case, it will be almost 20 months from date I join to complete a 12 month commitment. 4 weeks initial training, then almost 5-6 months as FO to reach 1500, then another upgrade training, then serve a 12 month contract as CA, that is a total of almost 20 months.

I will join ONLY & only if the company is OK that if someone wants to leave before completing the upgrade training and they will NOT mark a negative mark.
