That`s what I use to do when I was flying in the South Pacific, friends living in the outer islands would make me a list, and I would fly them in, in exchange they would give me fresh produce which is way cheaper then on the main island, since most vegetables are imported while the outer islands have to grow them to survive.
 
What's the latest with Cape Air and Hawaiian? Another forum said Cape Air was bowing out of the deal.

That is because of the heptachlor contamination in the 80's. yep, I got the poison. Wine is usually cheaper. I didn't think they were doing milk operations in the islands.

Unfortunately HI flying is not going to happen. Pretty sad deal as I would absolutely do it over going to Guam 12+ hrs away. Our owners did the generic "We don't feel it is a good enough fit", but the reality is simple. Our main financier of Cape Air (all the way from day one in the late 80's) passed away recently. He was VERY good with making deals and such. Well he is no longer around so now you have a group of guys who are not nearly as experienced trying to do what this person did for the entire existence of Cape Air. Our CEO is a local state senator and soon to be running for governor so his input and being in tune with this airline is greatly diminishing which has a definite impact here. I have only been here since May, and while I generally enjoy it, it is becoming more and more less "family" oriented and such as just even 1 year ago. The new contract with Teamsters has tremendously divided this place in a negative way. Pretty sad because the group of pilots are so awesome and enough to make this a place you would actually want to work at long term, but I can't justify a fun group of guys for the numerous times I have been scared • flying one of their 402s... This is why I wanted this HI deal to work so badly because I would be flying something that wasn't always so questionable and getting 121 experience.

I'm no longer there so I can't say much one way or another, other than how I appreciated working for a conservative company. Cape Air has been careful not to over-extend their reach. They're very cautious not to take on a bunch of flying without being certain they can make money on it.

Ultimately, I think this philosophy is what has allowed them to never furlough and continue to turn profits even during the recession. When I was there (and my LOA hasn't expired yet, so you never know, I might go back...) I was thankful to be in such a stable operation.

Maybe your analysis is correct, and if so, that's too bad. But in the end, staying out of Hawaii might be for the best.

Hummm. Perhaps not. If it's Empire the freight dawgs are the list at the moment. How many want to go to Hawaii? How many want to fly Pax? No union to give structure to these questions. I don't know. I'd still take a pretty close look at it. Getting on at the ground floor of a new successful company can be pretty awesome. Wish Hawaiian had just taken it in house. That's how it should be.
