Can't get a straight answer about taking the AFOQT

Yep, no problem. Don't let what I said discourage you, I knew none of that until I was already at UPT. As for my unit being brac'd I just transferred to a different, more convenient and closer to home unit, flying -130s. Things come up, leadership understands and will work with you. In my specific example I got hired like 3 years ago, so know one knew what was going down. Fast forward and the squadron straight up asked me if I wanted to stay for UAVs or if I wanted to fly Herks elsewhere. They claim it was with no hard feelings after I chose to leave, so they WILL work with you. I'm not sure what your current circumstances in life are... wife/kids/debt etc etc, but if you do get picked up, you'll be glad you did it. Military flight crews are by and large great folks and if you can make it through UPT and get the wings... well that my friend is a pretty indescribable experience.
