A plane has vanished after taking off from London and sending out an emergency distress signal, according to reports.
Search crews are hunting for the plane, which sent out a mayday call roughly 15 miles away from the Norwegian border where it was flying from Heathrow Airport.

What the news story is saying is the plane took off from London LHR en route to Tromso Norway; the last contact was made between Lake Akkajaure and the Swedish Lapland Mountains. A norwegian F-16 found the wreckage. 2 Souls on board, postal (Mail service) Plane. So the article makes sense if you read carefully.

"Two people are believed to have been on board the Swedish registered mail flight, which was traveling between two Norwegian destinations."

Where does London come in to play on a flight between two Norwegian cities?

Maybe originated from London and had an intermittent stop? Like when Singapore 006 crashed and all the papers said it was coming from Singapore to LAX when, in fact, it crashed making a scheduled stop in Taiwan. Otherwise I can't make sense of it either.

Wow! Almost impossible to judge the distance but that's a pretty small debris field. Looks almost vertical impact.

RIP......

Not sure what type of aircraft you fly but everything I've ever flown has only been able to go to ONE destination at a time. Never have I flown between two.
Origin and destination, YES; destination and destination,, not so much.............:confused2:

Think this was a factor? :sarcasm:

From crappy-assed google translate:

One of the two pilots of the Swedish cargo plane sent out a distress call before disappearing overnight on Friday.

At 03:10 discovered a Norwegian military plane planes remains. The pilots - 42-year-old Spaniard and a 34 year-old Frenchman - are feared dead in the crash.

At 11 o'clock the mountain rescue had not yet been able to get to the hard crash site in the Swedish mountains between Lake Akkajaure in Lapland and the Norwegian border.

The aircraft remains only smaller pieces, said Anders Lännholm, air rescue director at the Swedish Maritime Administration who worked during sökinsatsen. Based on the available information, he can convey a preliminary picture of the events even if the cause of the accident is still unclear.

- It's gone down very quickly. From 33 000 feet, the plunged in a rate of about 9 000 feet per minute. It is a ruffled speed, said Lännholm.

Investigates violations of the Aviation Act

Police headlining at present the incident as violation of the Aviation Act.

- At 13 o'clock, we were told that it was not possible to eject from the plane. In view of this, we have launched a preliminary investigation of violations of the Aviation Act. It is to find out what has happened. That does not mean we suspect violations and no one is served, suspicion, says Maria Jakobsson, information officer at the police in Norrbotten.

When the information that the pilots could not shoot themselves out, which is the standard that one can not do the flying machines of that type, was rubric that can be changed.

- At nine o'clock we had no information on the go or do not go to shoot out of it. When we get that information, it means that the probability that they will be alive is very small. Then cancel, we lso, the law on protection in accidents, and initiates an investigation of violations of the Aviation Act, says Maria Jakobsson.

Gustaf Thureborn is CEO of the airline concerned West Atlantic.

- It is correct that it does not slide out of the plane, he said.

The accident is also being investigated by the Swedish Accident Investigation Board.

Police, who worked with the mountain rescue at the scene, had before nightfall not found any remains.

- We now have interrupted efforts to find someone who is alive, says Maria Jakobsson at Norrbotten police said.

The film shows the accident site and the first helicopters coming in. As the film shows, it was already too late when the helicopters came, telling Captain Brynjar Stordal at Joint Headquarters (FOH).
The photos show the crater where the plane crashed. The fighters have advanced systems to locate targets on the ground, and this system can also be used to search for the missing aircraft.
- Målangivelsesutstyret the F-16 has optics that make it able to work well in this type of search, continue Stordal.

- It was sent out mayday signal was caught up in the tower at Bodø Airport. We launched a rescue mission and found the plane about 9 kilometers from the Norwegian border, said rescue leader Anders Lennholm by sea and air traffic rescue coordination center in Gothenburg.

Not primary mission
In Bodo says Norwegian fighters on emergency service for NATO. These were was requested to assist in the search and was the first to localize mail plane from West Atlantic.

- This is not the primary mission of the Quick Reaction Alert (QRA) in Bodø, but the Rescue Coordination Centre (RCC) know that we are sitting on these tools and have the opportunity to ask for support, telling Stordal.

RIP. :(
Wow! FL330 to 11,500 in 60 seconds. That's about 250 mph. Terminal velocity of a bullet falling straight down is about 200 mph. Freaky.
