What's with "We check the remarks" or similar phraseology from the Jazz and Air Canada pilots? Is that standard phraseology in the Great Northern Tundra?

(Not to say the meaning isn't clear, it is just unusual down here and only heard from the Canadians)
 
Yep.

I say it all the time as well.

(but I went from zero to hero in Canada, some habits are hard to break)
 
This explains when a pilots checks in with some extra info (turb etc) and I say "check remarks" I usually get a "say again" from American crews... I always thought it self explanatory, I don't personally recall if it's in our phraseology or not though I doubt it, I use it all the time...
 
I never worked adjacent to any Canadian facilities, but we did get a lot of Canadian pilots when I was in west central Florida. One Air Canada pilot in particular would end EVERY transmission with "Alfa." For example, he would check in saying, "Air Canada 111 with you descending to fourteen thousand with information foxtrot... alfa." Or, (if they wanted an opposite direction landing), " Air Canada 111 requesting runway 18L, alfa."

I asked why and he said, "We use the phonetic alphabet, and "Alfa" is phonetic for "eh."

The differing customs of each country is hilarious on the radio.

No matter when you call Mumbai, it seems, they always don't hear your first transmission and always ask:

"Station calling?"

"Mumbai radar, Delta five six, flight level seven zero, two five zero knots, information tango"

"Station Calling?"
