Canadian ATC and readbacks

For some reason this just popped in my head. Last year I was flying a King Air into YVR and every time we got an instruction to do something and I read it back the controllers would then say roger after my readback. Is that common practice up there or just a habit passed around? Hopefully canadian_atc can answer this one.
 
Had this question lots of times. It's part of our requirements to verify that the readback was correct. For Canadian pilots, often if we don't acknowledge they will query us if we heard them, and the Americans usually are bewildered.

So you're not the first one to bring this up!

"N123AB climb flight level 360"
"Climb flight level 360 3AB"
"N123AB Roger"

IIRC that's the official way to answer, usually you will just get a "Roger"


On a personal note, I don't think it should be needed for simple instructions, but if they want to pay me like they do and tell me to say "Purple Monkey Dishwasher" instead, I will.
 
I don't know what it is about Toronto but some of the radio frequencies sound like they are coming from inside a tin can! I get a kick out of them saying roger all the time but that is just me.
 
Not unlike flying there's all kinds of rules we must follow we may not see the need for.
