Canadair Crash at ASE / Aspen Eagle, Colorado

Man...Two people I worked with are scheduled to go into there today. But that's not a Citation.
I hated doing that approach even in VFR. You need to be FULLY configured by Redtable.

Wishing all the best!

several coming in reporting low level windshear 15-20 kts. 115WF went missed with 33 kts tailwind....1st time.

That airport is an expletive menace under IFR. As Mike said, one way in, one way out. With an off-airport ILS to guide you up the valley if you miss. Only one of those I'm aware of. If it weren't the playground of the rich, there's absolutely no way that place would be open to IFR traffic tomorrow. Hope everyone got out.

There's a bunch of rich folk sitting idle getting pissed.....
I don't care about THEM...I have to get home for dinner in the Hamptons.

Actually, who am I kidding:
I don't care about THEM...I have to get home for dinner in DC.

Sad day. Nasty place. Been there once - more than enough.

Ahh geez

30 knot tailwind, again not being in the know, I wouldn't have thought that within limits for any airplane
I'm just a dumb regional turboprop pilot, but I can't imagine trying it again barring exigent circumstances, unless I have all the fuel in the world, etc.

Doubt it's much more than 10.

I've heard, though never experienced it personally, that ASE tower can get "creative" with wind reports to help guys out.

Yes, there is only one runway.

The ATC Live link above is pretty interesting; about 26:20 into the tape a Citation reports to ground that the airplane in front of him has a chock wedged between the top of the right outboard tire and its' gear door. It would have been a pretty interesting situation had this this accident not occured. The plane with the stuck chock was N528AP; wonder what happens to a gear door when you mash a chock up into the wing!

I don't know... Same could be said for SUN, MMH, etc. We (SkyWest) even operate in there 121. So does Eagle. Now I've only been in there 20 or so times so far, but the key is to NOT be complacent and fully expect to bail at any time. We also have some very good balked landing procedures, which really should be mandatory for anybody going there. Otherwise you're playing test pilot if you have to go around after the MAP.

Anyone have a Challenger manual on their shelf that could look up the tailwind limit?

Huh, there's not a landing limit in the limitations section, but the performance section says "The maximum tail wind component approved for take-off and landing is 10 knots."
