If i were to get my ratings up here and stuff, there is a 95% chance I will work in the United States, because there isnt much up here for CFI's or anything...What would I need to do to get to be able to fly in U.S? and how much will it cost etc?

Thank you
Andrew

It's not converting the ratings that is the problem, it is getting the right to work. Are you a US citizen or green card holder? If not, how do you plan on becomming one?

I guess the "easy" way is to marry a US citizen. In the long run, I doubt that is the best method.

hey andrew,
What part of Canada are you from? I will be moving up there soon and i will be going to the Cornwall Air Traffic Control Training center near Toronto for NaVCanada. How is the Aviation outlook out there? Do you happen to know if the entry exam for ATC is tough or not? Also how is the prospect of most airlines there? Any info and feedback will be appreciated. Thnx-Mike

I think you can get a job as a CFI down here as long as you have your social security. Is anyone more clear on this?

Going to school in the US won't help you. You need to win the green card lottery, marry a US citizen, or get educated in some field that is badly needed in the US. None of these are real easy.

I am from Ontario, Cornwall is about 3 hours from me, I was planning on going there as ATC also but I have planned to become CFI.. From what I hear theres a bunch of aptitute tests and if you arent sucessfull you can try again in a years time..

They're arent much jobs as pilots in canada, beware, it sucks so much, unless you have tons of hours and you can apply for a airline that flys out of CYYZ..

btw the Nav Canada training center cornwall is no where near Toronto, its like a 5 hour drive...Im about in between,

If you have anymore questions i'll be glad to help, my cousin is a Air traffic controller at CYYZ

Andrew-Thank you for the reply. It just felt like the entry test sounds tough to get in. I am just worried that if i don't make it perhaps i can join an airline out there as a dispatcher or something. If you don't mind it will be cool if you can find out from your cousin more about the exams and the job traning and either PM me or just reply to this message for any intersted individual. Appreciate your help//

If you're thinking about a pilot job in canada, unless you have an awesome contact or 4000 hours, its move to Fort Middle Of Nowhere in the north and work on the ramp for a year before you get on as a pilot. As for other airline jobs Air Canada is deffinately not hiring, places like Westjet are hiring lots of people for all aspects of their operation.
