Hello again all. Thanks for the responses on the other thread re: my expungement. all the responses have helped tremendously and are encouraging!

New question, will this expungement require a Canadian clearance or the letter of rehabilitation? Does anyone have any experience with this? I am under the impression that if it is more than 10 years passed ( 23 to be exact) I do not have to apply for this?

I completed the process to get the letter last year. My understanding is however since more than 10 years has passed, you are deemed rehabilitated, (as long as we're not talking about murder) and should have no problem going in.

I spent $300 on a consultation with a lawyer, once I gathered all the paperwork and put my packet together. Canada charges a fee of either $200 or $1000 for the waiver, but I can't remember which I paid. So at the most paid $1300.

While I was going through it, got quotes from lawyers, one as high as $10,000. I think the only reason you'd need a lawyer is if Canada requested a hearing. For a simple DUI (not to belittle the crime), the process is pretty straight forward if you follow the instructions on the website.
