Can you legally fly VFR with an expired GPS database?

Anyway, sure there's nothing illegal about listening to a CD while flying, but it dosn't say directly on the front cover of the CD that you should not do so.

Don't make me bring up the old "slips with flaps" discussion....

Many pilots assume that whatever their CFI told them 10 years ago, or their buddy who hangs around the airport said is in the FARs. Most people are shocked to find out how much you can get away with without vilolating anything from the FAA. They assume that because theywould never try it and it is completely unsafe it must be illeagle. Not always!

For example you get your PMEL in a seminole, and your high performance endorsement in a C-182. You are now leagle to fly a King Air B-200. No endorsement is required for a torboprop, it weighs less than 12,500 lbs no type rating required.

I have my CFI, if I get my CSES, I am now leagle to give instruction in float planes. Nevermind that I probably only have 8-10 hours on floats, I'm a CFI airplane with CSEL, and CSES!

Wana be my first student?

On the flip side, if you take off, fly around for a while, return and land safely, you've probably viloated a FAR somewhere. At least the FAA could find something somewhere if it wanted to. Are you sure that airplane you are renting is airworthy?

That's my only point, mech. Although the FAA will nail you if you screw up, the regulations are written with enough leeway so that you can easily operate with some flexibility.

I agree completely, and that's the way it should be! I'm glad that the FAA stays out of our way, mostly. When I here how much trouble can be to fly in the UK or even Austraila, I'm almost gratefull for the FAA, almost
