can we give the FAA checkride through a self study program

Hello,

One of my friends recently had difficulty with the training at his school. He is however very close to taking the FAA PPL checkride. Can he take the FAA checkride by contacting an FAA check airman on his own? How else can he take the FAA checkride if he has to drop out of his school and does not want to join another school until after his PPL?

Well he has to be signed off for the checkride by an instructor, so if he is signed off to take the checkride then he can go ahead and schedule, otherwise he needs to find an instructor that can finish him and then sign him if he is ready. He can try to find a private instructor that is not associated with a flight school and finish with him, but the question is, is your friend part 61 or part 141? If he is 141 then he must stay because its a program and many of flight schools do not have the same program.

He was in part 141 before at the school but now in part 61. So I guess he can find a private instructor who can sign him off or maybe he can switch to another part 61 school. Ok that helps.

Sid.
