Can I go Corporate with ATP?

Hi everyone,

One thing I haven't really seen discussed so far is whether or not many graduates go on to be corporate pilots. I definitley get the feel that ATP "grooms" you to one day be an airline pilot, but is ATP a good choice for those whose goal is to fly corp. one day? I would assume the basic requirements (ratings, etc.) are the same.

Are any of you current students or grads considering corporate for your long term goal? I am not going to totally limit myself to corp., as I think the airlines are a good choice too, but it has just been my dream to fly the Globals or Gulfstreams one day (that's not too much to wish for, is it?)

Sorry if this has been discussed before, but I've only made it through 10 of what, 23 forum pages on ATP?! My eyes are starting to bug out... Any help would be great!!

I am sure that it is a goal for many... the catch is that most corp jobs want 3000-5000 TT and I dont thing that anyone wants to instruct that long so they go to the regionals and then to the Corporate jobs...

When I was in Stuart for my initial CFI checkride in March, I met a former ATP instructor (I forget his name offhand) who now flies Lear and Challenger jets for a charter company in Stuart.

ATP gets you the basic flight ratings that you pretty much need for any future flying job. What you do with those ratings is entirely up to you.

CaptainMatt, are you a fellow percussionist-turned-pilot? If so, that would be three I've met this week...

Well I've always had the Flying bug.. I should be starting my PPL with in the next two months... With the Drums they are just a hobby that have been consuming me recently. I've played mostly rock and little jazz for fun for a couple years now.. Right now I'm just working on perfecting my drumming and keep my options open to join some band for fun.
