Caffeine

Hey Doc,
May be a stupid question but I thought I would ask, I have a job flying organs around the country for transplants, most of these flights are at night and on an on call basis. I have a day job flying too so I can't structure a steady sleep schedule. Am I allowed to take caffeine capsules to stay awake at the end of long nights, and are there any alternative's that don't include drugs?

Caffeine is a legal substance (it is "natural"). I know of nothing else. Be cautious though, stimulants only go so far then it is downhill quickly.

Apples, 5 hour energy and stretching. I also recommend splitting your sleeping up. I sleep about 2-3 hours at night and then again in the day. Say, 1200-200 am and then about 10am-2pm. It's great for me though it took some getting used to.

I second the apples. I read a book that suggested that apples are actually more effective than caffeine.

Pretty soon Starbucks will be going to apple lattes!
