CAE right seat program

Does any of you good looking, well educated scholars/aviators know if CAE Simuflight is still in business or looking for poor souls to work for free in the right seat program. Yes, I am that desperate....don't hate!

First, don't work for free. Period. Second, most of the right-seat programs are paid now. FlightSafety was advertising a few positions last week.

yes Simuflite is still in business. No you shouldnt do thier right seat program for free. Obviously it isnt a high paying position, but I think they at least get minimum wage plus training in the aircraft they will be working

Does any of you well educated. Made me laugh a bit. Never ever take a job for free. Not flying is better than working without proper compensation.

If you are desperate, why are you willing to work for free? Seems kind of silly to me. Not to mention that you aren't even getting flight time as compensation for sitting in the right seat of a sim. Actually, it seems REALLY silly to me.

Desperate for what? CAE is not going to pay you, so if you're looking for money, you're looking in the wrong place. And if you're looking to cure the flying bug, well...sitting right seat in a sim isn't going to do that (though it will cure the urge to run checklists, if you have such a thing).

If, on the other hand, you're looking for something to do part-time for a couple of days a week or so to expose yourself to a type of flying you wouldn't otherwise see, or to meet people who could one day lead you to a job, then it might be worth your while. But it seems from your post that you're desperate for a job. And this isn't that.

Bingo! I have a good instructing job but zero leads (had some but they are all dryed up) into something further than a Cessna 150. Just thought that the right seat thing would generate some networking if, in fact, they are still operating. And instructing is one tiny step above working for free, but at least it's flying.

Instructing is a HUGE step up from working for free. It may not feel very glamorous, but it's a hell of a lot better than pimping yourself out for right seat time.

One of my friends went through the one in Dallas, but to my knowledge they don't have any spots right now.

As I understand it. the regs have changes somewhat such that in order to receive the type at the end of the 80 sessions, one must complete some portion of the ride in the actual aircraft. This makes the program more-or-less worthless in my opinion.

huh? you can get typed in a level C or D sim without ever flying the real aircraft

I'd hope you can take some more pride in what you do than that. Instructing is a big step above sitting right seat in a sim, and you should treat it as such (i.e. be an instructor first, and a right-seater second).

The Dallas training center is certainly still going. Whether they have spots open I don't know. But you could call and ask.

I'll probably get hammered for this but what the heck:p

Last I heard CAE does not pay a salary, but they do.... after a certain amount of sessions in the box, type you in whatever sim your trained in to do right seat.

I have several friends there currently, one seems to be just collecting types, another just got his 135 checkout in a Falcon, and two that have corporate flying jobs as a direct result of the networking.

I dunno...Multi thousands of dollars of training seems like compensation to me :D. If you can do it and hold your CFI job more power to you.

I PM'd some info

I maybe wrong but I agree with this.

While I did not work for free, I was only paid $1000 per month on my first corporate job, C310 and Sic C500. That was while I was in college, 6 mo. with that job pay, after I graduated it went all the way up to $2000 per month but that was 1984. 18 months later I got a good paying corporate job. Long story short I would not have gotten a good job if I had not taken a lower pay job experance.

huh, i always thought the right seaters at Simuflite were paid... still a good part time deal to get a free type rating though
