Let me tell you about Comair Aviation Academy! I was a student there and could not have been more displeased. When the first Gulf War started they
immediately reneged on the contract we had all signed and increased the rental
rates for the airplanes with a "fuel surcharge". They then began to ignore the
non-foreign, non-sponsored students like me, and provided better scheduling
frequency to the overseas students who had their governments or foreign
carriers footing the bill for them to learn to fly. I thought the leadership
at the academy was unethical at the very least and outright corrupt and greedy
when it came to changing our rental pricing mid-term. We successfully sued and
won back some of our money in a class action suit. Out of the seventy students
in my class, only a handful of us actually completed the program. All who
completed the program did so overbudget and took quite a bit longer than the
six months that they advertised. Only two of us are airline pilots today, that
I know of. God Bless my father and mother for footing the bill - they have
asked that I put them in a great care facility when they get old and go nuts.

My advice to those seeking flight school training would be to investigate the
school very carefully by speaking with current students and inspecting the
facilities and campus. Also, get everything in writing !! If your vision is
20/20 and you have no other disqualifiers - find a Reserve/Guard unit to join
and save yourself six to eight years of instructing/corporate flying/commuter
flying.
