How well do you understand wet foot/dry foot? My wife is an immigration attorney - let me tell you what it means in reality. There are thousands of Cuban exiles in the US who have committed crimes that would, if they were of any other nationality, result in them losing their immigration statuses and being subject to an order of removal back to Cuba. Trust me - much of the Miami anti-reform sentiment actually originates from families who have cousins, uncles, etc. who would be subject to deportation under the removal of this special protection. Cubans living in America lost their special status under Obama - and as a result, ended up being treated like every other foreign national who immigrates here.

If you're a conservative, do tell me what part of that you don't like.

I specifically chose my screen name years ago to discourage myself from speaking out of my bunghole. It's not very often I comment about something I know little of, but it seems I have this time.
My sentiment is mostly born of our previous Presidents love affair with socialist regimes and his concessions to the Castro family in that deal.
Although, our current fearless leader seems to be enamoured with dictators as well.
Of course I would not like criminals taking advantage of refugee status, but I would think people fleeing Cuba would still deserve to be considered refugees.
Is there a case to made to the contrary?
 
Can I still get a high end hooker for two rolls of toilet paper? I wouldn't do it, but I like to know all of my options.

Go easy on yourself - if I wasn't married to who I was, I wouldn't be aware of it either. And I'm inclined to agree with you on the refugee status point when circumstances warrant it.

So I'm going to suggest that half of what you've said here is worth merit. To suggest that gender inequality in pay is an "Obama lie" is a lot of things, but mostly just wrong - it's not like he cited his own data, and if he was wrong, it was because hundreds of researchers and experts were as well. GW wasn't lying about WMDs in Iraq - he was just wrong.

On the issue of gender inequality, I have yet to be fully convinced that it exists simply because I've yet to see an economic model that accounts for the fact that women, for whatever reason, gravitate to roles that have less economic value. It has been suggested that deep cultural biases drive the occupations each gender chooses, and that's a valid argument - although I'm of the belief that there are biologically driven motivations that don't fit well into our egalitarian models. The other argument against the notion of systematic gender inequality in pay has been the difficulty researchers have had in actually finding it in corporate environments. So I'd say I'm open-minded on the topic - although I absolutely think any company should audit their compensation data to see if such a problem exists.

Those things being noted, we allow a lot of Americans to die for reasons they don't in other 1st, and some 2nd world countries, and in terms of access to healthcare and education, Cuba has us beat.

I do find it odd how the US ranks refugees. Economic refugees from Cuba? Sure. Refugees from a war in Syria, no way. Refugees from the Soviet Union? If you were Jewish, sure. Escaping a drug war in Mexico? Build a wall.

If we really want to allow anyone from communist Cuba to come here, why don't we do the same for communist Vietnam, or communist China?

I don't think it's odd we have different levels of acceptance based on many complex situations.
I would imagine the proximity of Cuba to our shores has something to do with the thought process as well.
The wall will have doors, by the way. Refugees please form the line to the left. Drug and human traffickers, terrorists and evil doers please form the line to the right.
 
We should just put up a sign. "No unauthorized entry". Signs work great at preventing bad behavior.

The notion of a gender pay gap existed way before 2008 - you realize that right?

Could have raised a substantive question about the economic data behind this idea - but instead you chose to make a logically insensible claim about the former president. Disappointing.
 
Of course it did. President Obama is the one who brought it to the spotlight in, 2010 I believe, and gave it the gravitas to hold on like an Alabama tick.

The economics of it and the actual existence of a pay gap don't need a discussion because for it to exist would require nation wide conspiracy of nearly all employers to pay women less and the fact males are still employed at the "higher" pay rates....

Because most Cuban refugees want to overthrow the Castro regime and go back home. So when they come over here they support republicans.
