I know you have never flown up and down the East Coast, but you can't just 'request' and alternate route and be expected to be given one.
Really? Good job posing a situation with no resolution. In fact, you can, I have done it, but it comes with experience in the area. Flying the East Coast is not difficult it just requires more attention to detail and fore site. The more we continue the mentality that we as pilots can't work the system to our favor, the more it becomes fear "that we might piss off ATC" hindering our PIC abilities to be rightfully exercised to its maximum potential. Don't be an asswhole, but don't be their beotch either.
