Bunk beds... Now bunk seating..

Seems like a good idea, use more of the cabin volume of a widebody for $$$-deriving butts. Although the fantasy that they will somehow be more comfortable is somewhat risible.

I'm not claustrophobic but... Lower row, center seat, and I might have a problem.

Yep, the thing all these fancy new fangled seating arrangements seem to forget is useful load.

Didn’t we just see an article about the possibility of getting away from standard weights and using actual weights in 121 because of gross weight being exceeded ? How would stacking bodies improve that problem?

Good luck getting this beyond the emergency exits laws...

That was the very first thought I had. The next thought was that anybody who has seen what economy looks like after a transcon or greater knows that double decker couches a la Lego Movie are a very nasty idea.

Waste of time and money. Those aircraft would have to be used for exclusive markets, and be the next A380. Combinations of weight/range would be the biggest hurdle/limiting factor.

That's an idea that'll never get past the FAA requirements regarding disembarking passengers during an emergency, this is about as valid as those stand up seats. If they offered to let me fly for free I'd decline and and say thanks, no.

Edit; One of my dads best friends when he grew up was one of the "passengers" while in college when Boeing was figuring out whether or not they'd be able to evacuate a 747. I've heard him tell the story, lots of pandemonium on the first few attempts in a mockup. He was told if he'd return for more tests they'd appreciate it if he wore a Hawaiian shirt. He did and the attempts on the second and third days went much smoother.

I'm not an airline guy so correct me if I'm wrong, but if you've got load to burn aren't boxes in the belly generally a more lucrative option than more steerage passengers?

That’s my understanding too, I think airlines would rather see options for more useful load in the belly than mouth breathers but what do I know? Also make a dedicated and comfortable space for carrying dogs and other animals while we’re at it, not in stupid cargo.
