Buddy Pass Gone Wrong

The buddy pass guy isn't anonymous, and what was he going to do when the real passenger was in her assigned seat?

Destined for failure from the start.
You have to give the miscreant credit, after multiple attempts to slip through the cracks he was able to board an airplane headed for his desired destination. If he hadn't emerged from the lav and found an ass in every seat he might've made it to Austin. It was his first time getting caught, he seemed fairly adept at these sorts of shenanigans, was this his first attempt, was this a round trip or did someone teach him how to do this? How often is this sort of thing actually successful? Is TSA just theater?

From what it sounds like his buddy pass was for Southwest only.
So he was probably planning that when he came out of the bathroom he would just grab any open seat, under the assumption there would probably be at least one and nobody would notice. He probably would have succeeded if there had been an open seat

He did exploit cracks in the system, however this had nothing to do with TSA though. He was a ticketed passenger and presented necessary paperwork to go through security without incident. Once past the checkpoint he decided to try and Frank Abagnale his way to Austin.

Jokes on him, no more open seating on SWA.

How does the computer not shut down the fact that two people used the same boarding pass to get on the plane?

The legit passenger may not have had a successful scan. Gate agent might have verified she was on the pax list and let her board without a scan thinking it was a computer glitch.

I think gate agent can see pax info onscreen as I’ve seen an economy pax turned away trying to board during 1st class boarding. This might be a common occurrence where the pax reboards without a second successful scan.

I once had a buddy pass and a confirmed ticket. Got asked to hit the call button if I was on the plane. I guess one ping only was fine.,.

yeh there were only 2 seats open so I covered my ass. Think I refunded the BP after - it was a while ago.
