Bucket list: Marathon-Check

Yeah, there were alot of gimmick runners, but one I wont forget is around mile 21...Im struggling, and here comes this guy...cruising on by......comfortable as can be.....barefoot! His feet were black. He ran the entire marathon barefoot. Now thats something to be proud of!

Running barefoot is actually supposed to better for you if you are acclimated to it. Imagine that, Nature made us the best feet we could have and humans muck it up by wearing shoes.

Congrats on the marathon. I've made it up to 10k races. Dang those seemed long, I can;t imagine what running a marathon would be like.

The surface is another major factor. I try to stay off concrete if at all possible. One would think a hard surface is a hard surface. Not so. I had to do a 10 mile training run once and it was almost ALL on concrete. It felt my feet had been beaten with hammers. Nothing like the asphalt road condition.

Haven't done a marathon in a LONG time but when I did train, I had two identical pairs of shoes and rotated them so I didn't have to break in a new pair and didn't run one pair out of balance. Worked for me.

My wife does research about childhood obesity and graduated with masters in exercise science. Needless to say she is a huge health nut and keeps trying to get me to run a marathon with her. She trained page by page according to a training book a year ago or so and did great. Afterwards she had a couple stress fractures in her legs though. There was probably nothing she could have done about it the doctor says.

Personally, I don't think there is anything worse than running. I hate it. But I put on 1200 miles this past summer cycling.

This is my new ride I got last week.....
